About Me

I'm the mother of five grown children, with two still living at home; and the grandmother of five, ages from 2 to 19 years. We are a close family and enjoy movies, TV, museums, parks, festivals, family game nights, and just hanging out together.

Spring 2025... This is a great time of year to live in the Houston area! The weather is (mostly) mild and there are so many fun outdoor markets and events.

Postcards

I enjoy swapping postcards. Hand made or store bought, postcards bring a little bit of cheer to an ordinary day. I have a slight preference for receiving them naked and written on unless it's a swap for adding to my stash.

Zazzle cards (or the like) are fine with me. I've found the quality to be good on the ones I've seen, I don't really understand why some people don't like them.

My favorite kind of postcards are:

  • colorful
  • scenes from nature
  • arty
  • from an interesting place
  • whimsical
  • positive or uplifting

I especially like receiving postcards that include a fun note or quote or joke on the back, and tell me a little something about the person who sent it.

Other swaps

In addition to swapping postcards I've also particpated in some simple flat envelope swaps. I think it's fun to share stickers, extra notecards, and washi samples. (I do love me some washi tape!) I can sometimes use other kinds of paper ephemera also. I'm not really picky about what I receive, if I can't use it I will usually just pass it on in the next swap.

I'm enjoying the tea swaps I've joined. I started out drinking mainly Chai tea but, through the swaps, I have been introduced to a wide variety of teas and so far I love them all! So feel free to send all kinds, I'm willing to try anything.

I especially love decorating the envelopes that I send stuff in and I really enjoy getting decorated envelopes in my mail box. Mail Art is the best!

Favorite Crafts

I like paper crafts mostly. Acrylic paints. Brush pens and gel pens and markers (oh my!). Collage. Even watercolors, although I just play around. I have a couple of art/junk/smash journals that I like play in. I really enjoy making postcards and greeting cards to send to my family and friends. I try to recycle or upcycle whenever I can.

Miscellaneous

I love pretty / beautiful things - flowers and gardens of all kinds; fun patterns and prints; sunrises and sunsets; rainbows; the moon, stars, and the night sky; natural scenic wonders.

My favorite color is aqua blue or turquoise. I also like pink and red.

I like animals... especially cats and birds... especially owls! Other favorite animals are woodland creatures (foxes, deer, rabbits, etc.) songbirds (chickadees, cardinals, wrens), frogs, lizards, and garden insects.

Some other things I enjoy: Baseball (big Astros fan here!); bird watching and nature walks; Chococat and Keroppi (Sanrio); Spring and Fall; Christmas; Ancient / Classical Greece; Wine, Margaritas, Craft Beers; Mexican Food; Street Art; Coffee and quaint coffee shops; Books, especially sci-fi and fantasy, Monty Python, MST3K, geocaching.

Other favorites

Books / authors - JRR Tolkien; Mary Renault; Rosemary Sutcliff; Steven Brust; Dave Duncan; Ann Leckie; Dave Hutchinson; Adrian Tchaikovsky, Kate Atkinson (my tastes run to sci-fi / fantasy)

Movies / TV - Star Wars; Star Trek; Back to the Future; Ghostbusters; White Christmas; You've Got Mail; Indiana Jones; Guardians of the Galaxy; My Neighbor Totoro; Fantastic Mr. Fox; Princess Bride; The Birdcage; Groundhog Day; Knives Out; Master and Commander; Emma; The Good Place; Abbott Elementary; Brooklyn Nine Nine; Severence; Parks and Rec, Ted Lasso, Ghosts, Only Murders in the Building - new favorites: Slow Horses and Poker Face! (I seem to prefer action / adventure / funny / nerdy stuff!)

Music - Muse; Radiohead; Saint Motel; Weezer; Metric; The Dear Hunter; Panic at the Disco; Wolf Alice; Grouplove; Mother Mother; Amanda Palmer; Beach House; AFI; The Killers; Tame Impala (mostly Alternative)

Comment: Thank you for the beautiful card and for the swap. Winter storm FERN was a letdown for most people here who overprepared for a snowmageddon. Sister in Dallas got more snow than here. Peony card you used reminded me of the same sister. It's her favorite flower.

Comment: Thank you so much! The best part is, I don't even think the postcard looks pink at all, much less "whisper"-y.

Comment: Hi - wow - someone else has a bowl of a corns?? Yes, i got a picture in my head of the acorn you’re referring to but NOT THE HUGE ONES I SEE ONLINE! whoa! I would lose my mind running across that in nature. The ones I’ve collected - far west of central VA - are larger and rounder than typical acorns but mostly remarkable for their tendril -like covering. One I saw online was palm -sized 😳. Anyway, thanks; these go out today. Your note paper is very cute!

Comment: Thank you for the winter postcard _ I love it! Birding sounds like the perfect way to start the new year. I wonder - are the gold finches gold there in winter? There’re green here until spring, then they slowly turn gold. I didn’t know it got that cold in Houston, or were elsewhere?
Response: We only see gold finches in the winter here and they are NOT gold! They are pretty drab and in fact it took me a while to positively identify the little flock I saw that day. They may be drab but they do show flashes of occasional yellow. I love them! Thanks for rating and the heart!

Comment: Hi Lisa! I hope your Christmas lights made it to you without an issue and that your tree has been decorated! I think I am as ready as I will be - I have a few gifts to wrap but either I am in good shape or have forgotten stuff! LOL! I am going to try the Blackcurrant Breeze in just a few - did you enjoy it? Thank you for the share, teas, and good wishes! All the best! Hugs, Merry Christmas, and Happy Swapping! ;)

Comment: Oh. My. Gosh! You made my day because I was home sick with a fever today and your greeting was my only "happy mail" besides a Postcrossing postcard. This card is stunning. I love all the trees! Of course, I adore this little Paddington Bear happy meal booklet too. Thank you for reading my profile, bringing joy to my heart, and a smile to my face this holiday season! I am so grateful for your participation in the swap and group as well. Here's to happy mailboxes in 2026! Warm hugs from Florida!
