What is a scarflet? It's a short scarf that pins in front or just loops in front. Here are a few links to scarflet images. Now you have examples, what makes this a challenge? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make a scarflet based on your partner's preferences. When you sign up for this swap, you will post below some of the things you would like in a scarflet. You cannot specify the exact yarn/brand you want used or the specific pattern, but you can describe or provide links to yarns, colors, textures and patterns/stitches you like. This may mean that you will have to buy yarn to make your partner's scarflet -- unless you luck out and have some in your stash that will work. This is a challenge because you may choose to work with colors, yarns, and/or stitches you haven't tried before. You don't have to learn a new stitch, but it is an option. Because I know many people do not like Red Heart brand yarn (it really is pretty scratch to wear around your neck), I will make it a rule that these scarflets can NOT be made from Red Heart unless your partner specifically requests it. Depending on the pattern, the type of yarn, and how much comes in a skein, you will likely use 1 or 2 skeins. Because scarf-wearing time is near, I've set an early cut off date for sign ups. You should have your scarflet in the mail to your partner by November 15th. When sign ups are done, come back here and check out your partner's post of what he/she would like in a scarflet. Do your best to meet the description challenging yourself to try something new or different. Most of all, have fun! |
