About Me

Updated 30 November 2022

I discovered something interesting today. I went to our post office to drop some swaps into the drive-by mailboxes. (It was 14Β°F.) I was there more than an hour before the pickup time posted on the mailbox. And there was a woman emptying the mailboxes. I asked whether they would empty them again at the posted time and she shrugged. I guess those posted times are merely suggestions and that might be another reason why our delivery times are so wacky now.

My kitchen is my craft room because I love cooking and baking. We are vegetarians, doing our bit for climate change. These days I'm simplifying complicated recipes, like crustless cheese-less quiche with three ingredients plus salt, pepper and herbs. What are your favorite foods? How do you make them? I drink lots of tea, mostly herbal now, if a swap suggests sending tea in sealed packets.

I send the blank postcards I receive to family and friends and people on Postcrossing. Please send colorful and cheerful postcards that you'd happily send your family and friends. If you're sending me a naked postcard, please send one that's a favorite of yours, sender's choice or for a swap with a theme.

No, thank you. Sorry, no hearts. Postcards to color, postcards for Christian holidays and legends, and Zazzle postcards. Those cheap sepia 32-pcs Vintage Travel Sights Landscape Retro Postcards. Not those childish Distributed by Michael's Inc. designs. Please, no junk.

manders loves kawaii

Omurice is a wonderful quick dinner. I make it with Trader Joe's Japanese Fried Rice and extra frozen vegetables, thin omelettes that we lay over the fried rice, and ketchup. And now it's turning up in kawaii like Ojipan and I love them all!

My favorite kawaii has a face. I love food with faces and anchovies with legs and animals in an unlikely milieu like cat servers at faux Starbucks. I enjoy most characters, especially San-X.

No, thanks. Poo and bottoms aren't kawaii to me. 3D stickers from sheets and sticker flakes, especially PVC and puffy. Real photos made cute aren't so cute to me. Unicorns are too sweet for me.

No, thank you

  • Christian holidays, etc. I'm Jewish.
  • Ephemera, scrap book paper, die cuts, and the like. I won't use them.
  • Extras. I have plenty of kawaii, stickers and washi tape. The extras I send are more of what the swap is for, e.g., an extra postcard or kawaii sticker flakes. Sometimes I write long chatty notes.
  • Food. We keep kosher and we are vegetarians.
  • Glitter, sequins and other tiny metallic or plastic bits
  • Pigs.
  • Plastic, if possible. Reuse those bubble mailers!
  • Postcards: see above
  • Tobacco smoke residue aka thirdhand smoke. See also thirdhandsmoke.org.
  • Unicorns, except the Unicorn Tapestries dating from the late Middle Ages.

Comment: Thank you for this fun looking packages! It won't be too long till I can open these, right? Thanks again! Merry Christmas!
Response: I'm opening mine on December 18th, the first night of Hanukkah. You could open yours then too and celebrate Hanukkah with me. 😁 πŸ•Ž 😁
Comment: Thanks so much for all of the lovely post cards! Enjoy a wonderful holiday season~ 11/28/22 Meredith I was just handed your first envelope you sent to me. I love the washi tape you decorated it with. So pretty! One of the other residents here said it was sitting downstairs. I am thinking that it ended up in the wrong mailbox and that person put it up at the mailboxes. I was there last on Saturday and it was not there. The mail carriers are known to deliver mail into the wrong boxes here. I am so grateful for some honest people that got this to me. Thank you so much for the lovely letter and the really nice post cards too. If I could I would give you a lot more hearts I would!!!!
Response: You're welcome. I'm glad the resend arrived safely. Maybe in a week or two you'll receive the first batch. Holiday season for us is Hanukkah with a few candles and fun buying gifts for a needy family somewhere in our county. I enjoy all the good cheer around us in this season.
Comment: Seriously, you have the greatest washi collection!! Am I repeating myself? Sorry but I love getting envelopes from you and then when you share some of your washi it's even more fun!!! I hope that you found that 13 ingredient spice! Thanks again πŸŽπŸŽ„πŸŽ
Response: You're welcome. (I placed a Black Friday order for *more* washi tape.) Berbere spice mix arrived in time from Amazon; boy is that hot!
Comment: Thanks so much for your SOC letter - I loved hearing the bits about Thanksgiving plans and trips you had taken. The postcard extras were decadent, and I loved your washi-covered envie too!!
Response: You're so welcome. I didn't sit down to write it until I had something interesting to say! I had fun packing it up too.

Bhindblueeyes rated for KSU: Pick 3 on Nov 8, 2022
Comment: Thank you so so much for the pick 3 swap! And the S. Circus. Both have really gone above and beyond! What creative packaging also hehe! I am thrilled to use the stickies and flags at work - I love leaving my notes on overly cutesy products for the dudes ha!
Response: You're so welcome! I had fun putting together the swaps for you.
Comment: Thank you so much for this swap!!! And the other. I will comment on both though as both made my heart happy. ETA: I don't think I had ever seen the SC w/ the unicorn! LOVE IT!!!
Response: You're so very welcome again. I had not noticed the unicorn - I'll look for it now.
Comment: I'm so excited to get these. I have visited Italy 2 times and Sicily once. Unfortunately, I just started collecting and trading postcards on my last trip and didn't really get too many. I never made it to northern Italy so these are all new to me. Thanks for sharing. Joy Your envie was so cool.
Response: You're welcome. I'm that way about India - I stopped working there and then joined Postcrossing, without postcards from India. Now I cherish postcards from India.

Response: You're welcome. I just emailed you a photo of the dragon and our new Snoopy that I couldn't not get.
Comment: Thank you for the extra's
Response: You're welcome
Comment: Thanks for thinking of me when you are destashing your Lantern Press pcs. They are one of my favs.
Response: You're welcome. Not so much destashing as sharing rather than hoarding!
Comment: Many thanks for the cool postcards, which were new to me. Safe travels on your trip to Italy and have fun!
Response: You're welcome! It snowed here today and I'm hoping for better weather to be out and about in Italy because I'm not taking boots!
Petaltea rated for IS: World Postcard Day 2022 on Oct 8, 2022
Comment: Thanks for your postcard! We have about 800 ukrainian refugees staying in the city where we live. I can’t imagine what it must be like to leave everything and not know when you can return home. Stay safe!
Response: You're welcome. The news photos of areas demolished by rockets are likely hard for Ukrainian refugees to see too. They are heart-wrenching to me.

Thanks for the letter and postcards for my November WW! Your road trip sounds like so much fun. I've actually been to Hot Springs National Park and Beale St (during the day, not as fun) on a previous road trip. Thanks for the recommendations for St. Louis and even Oklahoma.

Aww thank you for the pretty washi covered envie (love it!) your nice note and the postcards for September WW. Can always use postcards to send but I'm keeping the quilt postcards, both my Mom's favorite flowers; tulips and poinsettias. Lucky me! Your happy mail always brings a smile to my face. :) Thank you for thinking of me!
