Hi there,
My name is Tally. I'm 25, and live on the west coast of Canada with my boyfriend of 4 years, a ton of crafting supplies and more books than we have shelf space for. (But who doesn't have that problem?) I have a degree in creative writing and a strong desire to never again work in the customer service industry.
I am completely addicted to crafting and all things related to it. I live to create things, and I'm always excited to meet and talk to people with similar interests. And folks with different interests, too. :)
I'm also interested in the ever-growing art of recycling and upcycling. I use found objects and found-around-the-house objects in my projects whenever I can, and I'm always looking for new and creative ways to use up little scraps of all my crafting materials.
Currently, my favourite materials are paper, felt, raw wool, fabric and crayons.
You can check out my crafting blog at: www.nheilke.com/blog (updates every Friday) or visit my Etsy store at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TallysTreasury
Other random things about me:
-My favourite colours (generally) are yellow, blue green and red, but I like just about all colours. I'm generally most fond of bright, vibrant colours, and I also think brown is drastically underappreciated. Don't go in much for pastels except in a few items of summer clothing.
I have a ridiculously large and much-loved earring collection (long, dangly and interesting earrings, all colours, all shapes. I don't wear anything smaller than about an inch, studs or chandelier earrings).
My hobbies other than crafting include singing, reading and going for walks.
I speak French reasonably well.
I like elephants, and adored the clip in Planet Earth that showed elephants swimming around.
I LOVE traveling, and can't wait till I have the time and money to do more of it. I've lived in many different places, including the US (Durham, North Carolina and Lawrence, Kansas), Canada (Calgary, Alberta and Victoria, BC), Germany (Berlin), Italy (Florence) and France (Paris). I've also visited many other areas of those countries, and been to Belgium, Spain and Austria. I have a list absolutely too long to even begin on of places I would like to return to or visit for the first time.
I look forward to becoming an active part of Swap Bot and seeing what neat trades and connections result!
My absolute favourite band is The Weakerthans, from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
I've recently "rediscovered" (as in, remembered and dug out of my attic) my Nickel Creek cds, and am busy adoring them all over again.
"The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver
"The Thief" by Megan Whalen Turner
"Bridge To Terebithia" by Katherine Paterson
"Peter Pan" by James M. Barrie
"Moo" by Jane Smiley
"Stardust" by Neil Gaiman
The Snowman
Planet Earth
Star Wars (the 3 original films)
Amelie
Stranger Than Fiction
Love Actually
Beauty and the Beast (Disney version)
Mulan
I don't know if I can possibly pick "favourite" crafts - I love doing just about everything!
Let's see. I do make a LOT of cards, so perhaps that counts as a favourite.
I also love working with wool and felt, and I've been getting into jewelry-making lately, which I really enjoy. I mostly use felt and paper beads that I make myself.
I'm also getting far more into sewing than I ever imagined was possible. It's amazing how having a new, working sewing machine helps with not giving up in frustration on every new project.
Along with this sewing thing, I'm experimenting a bit with 3D objects, ie: plushies. And I love receiving handmade plushies/softies/stuffies or whatever else you want to call them, especially little ones.
Since we don't have cable or even a TV, I don't really have any current favourite shows.
However we do watch old shows on DVD. My all-time favourite TV show is MASH.
Some other favourites are:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Firefly
The Office (British version)
Things I like and can use:
Books, bookmarks, elephants, dangly earrings, chocolate, Labello-brand chapstick, pretty papers and fabrics, buttons, ribbons, brads, pens, markers, permanent markers in crazy or unusual colours, wool rovings in any colours, wine corks, tea, hot chocolate, any kind of chocolate, Christmas tree ornaments, great new craft ideas.
I love handmade things, and love sending people handmade things.
I also adore and collect fairy tales, especially those accompanied by great illustrations.
If you send me something and it's possible to put stamps on it, instead of just those white postage labels, that would be great! I collect stamps and use them for craft projects. Like this one: http://nheilke.com/blog/?p=31
Stuff I don't like or can't use:
I hate spiders and brussel sprouts. And horrid gray rain. But I don't think anyone's gonna try to put any of that in the mail. :)
I also dislike anything related to Twilight and Stephanie Meyer.
Other than that, I'm not really a fan of kitsch or Kawaii, and I always prefer things that have a purpose. I live in a very small apartment and there just isn't room for more than a few treasured ornaments (the exception being at Christmas time). Also please no coffee - I've never acquired a taste for the stuff.
