My parents were both musical theatre actors, so I grew up listening to that sort of music, and I still love show tunes. I'm also a big fan of movie and tv soundtracks - I find them great music to write to. I like a lot of varied genres of music in general, though recently I've been listening to a lot of folk and filk music.
I have always been a devoted fantasy and sci fi reader, but recently I've become a lot pickier in what I read. I've found I mostly prefer female authors, and I'm trying to consciously read more authors of color. I've devoured everything by NK Jemisin, and am actively looking for similar authors. I also love all of Seanan McGuire's work, though strangely I can't really get into her stuff as Mira Grant. Probably because I'm not really a horror fan. I also like fantasy and sci fi YA books, but I often get frustrated with ones where love triangles and or other romance subplots end up taking over the main plot. Other authors I enjoy are Mercedes Lackey, Tanya Huff, and Ursula K LeGuin,
I love knitting. Possibly to an unhealthy degree. I usually have at least three or four projects going on at any one time, and I love experimenting with new techniques. I love crochet too, especially making amigurumi, but I've found that it hurts my wrist to do too much of. I like nice yarns, but I'm actually not a huge fan of 'novelty' yarns like eyelash yarn or stuff like that - too hard to figure out what to do with. I also have developed a dislike of bamboo needles, because they always seem to splinter on me.
I've also gotten in to doing planner stuff - I was using a bullet journal but it wasn't working well for me, so I've switched to a big Happy Planner, which I love. I'm not huge on decorating it, but I love stickers, especially of cute animals. I like gel pens and Staedtler fineliners, both for that and for zen doodling.
I'm in my mid-thirties and a massage therapist by trade. I live in rural Virginia.
