I like natural fibers--wool and alpaca are my favorite. Sock yarn has to be soft! I know that scratchier yarns have their purposes, but I can't deal with scritchity feet. I prefer fingering weight yarn for socks, too. Colorwise, I'm a mixed bag. My very favorite color is green--deep and rich like the most lush, beautifully watered grass you've ever seen only lusher (if you've ever been to Ireland, you know the green I'm talking about). I prefer brown to black. I like blue, but it has to be really WOW! right now for me to be really moved by it. At present, I'm in love with yellows and oranges that are bright and vibrant and reminiscent of sunshine and amazingly ripe citrus fruit. I love colors that remind me of nature in general--trees, fruit, sea, sky, and loamy soil. :) I have no strong love of stripes, but I'm okay with them. Variegation is nice (think Lorna's Laces or Socks that Rock rather than Koigu in this regard), and solids are, too. I have no problems with pooling or flashing.
I'm so eclectic, but not terribly indie. I try, though. Very tops on my list are Tori Amos, the Beatles (John is my personal hero on a lot of levels), Cake, Franz Ferdinand, Antonin Dvorak, and Dar Williams. Some of the artists that I adore beyond words but aren't the be-all-and-end-all for me are Sufjan Stevens, Deathcab for Cutie, Barenaked Ladies, Imogen Heap (by herself or as Frou Frou), Nickel Creek, Tom Petty, Timbaland (I love his recent work with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado), Green Day, Interpol, Shakira (mostly her stuff prior to Laundry Service, though her latest album is a step in the right direction), Fleetwood Mac, the Cranberries, Jack Johnson, Simon and Garfunkel, gods...this list could go on.
All-time favorite is The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. Runners up (distantly) include: Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, On the Beach by Nevil Shute, All Good Things... by Michael Jan Friedman, and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exuperey.
Knitting! I'm a Knitter, and it's kind of rocked my world in unexpected ways. I also crochet, but not as avidly, and I sew less than I would like. If it counts, I also rather dig cooking.
Star Trek!, CSI:, Dr. Who, Scrubs Jericho, How Clean is Your House?, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, MASH, The X-Files
