Hi! I'm Laura. I'm 28 years old from Melbourne, Australia. I live with my husband, our cat Belle, and our budgie Scuttle in a home we rent at the edge of the suburbs.
I understand that I have a few 1s on my profile - I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after falling in a heap, and then took a break from swapping. I am committed to bringing my rating back up to an acceptable level. Please message me if you have questions.
I love to read - especially classics and historical fiction. I'm a self-taught dressmaker and spend a lot of time making vintage-inspired clothes for myself. I particularly love the styles of the 1940s, and feel especially elegant wearing them. I am a homemaker and am training to be a foster mum. I enjoy cooking, baking, and gardening (we have a lovely veggie patch going), spending time with my family who live nearby, and exploring my town and Melbourne city. I also took up ballet five years ago and it's one of my favourite things to do.
I'd love a pen pal from anywhere in the world, near or far, who shares similar interests and wants to swap stories of our lives. I'm very creative and like adding pretty things to my letters, though that's not essential.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Broadway cast recordings; classical/ballet scores; singer/songwriters e.g. Carole King, Sara Bareilles, James Taylor; jazz, swing, big band. I also enjoy simple instrumental piano/guitar - ambient-type music which is very relaxing.
Anne of Green Gables; anything by Jane Austen; WWII-era historical fiction; Little Women; Harry Potter series; Outlander series. My favourite authors include Jodi Picoult, the Bronte sisters, Victoria Purman, E.M. Forster, and Sue Monk Kidd.
I absolutely love dressmaking. I make most of my own clothes and particularly love 1940s/1950s style. I'm starting to dabble a bit in historical dressmaking, too. It's extremely nerdy but very interesting! I've just started to teach myself tailoring, so it will be exciting to see how that turns out!
Of course I love to decorate, write, and send beautiful letters to loved ones and pen pals. There's no feeling like opening happy mail from around the world!
I enjoy knitting and crocheting in the cooler months, as well as baking, and graphic design.
My favourite animals are elephants. I honestly just think they're amazing. I love all flowers and growing things, but especially daisies. My favourite colour is red. I love anything vintage/WWII related. I collect sewing and penpalling supplies. I love herbal teas, but not black tea, and I prefer fruity teas to floral teas. My husband is Aboriginal Australian and we enjoy engaging with and learning more about his culture. I feel especially loved when people gift me bathtime goodies, as I suffer from chronic pain, so baths are an important part of my self-care. Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year, and my favourite seasons are autumn and spring. I prefer the city to the bush, though the idea of small-scale farm life is growing on me.
I don't drink coffee or black tea. Not a fan of skulls, spiders, snakes, or other spooky/gothic/horror themed things. I don't enjoy sci-fi and I'm not a maths person. I really don't like camping/being without running water for extended periods (though you'll get me in a cabin at a caravan park!). It's very upsetting to me to see the damage being done to the planet, and I do my best to avoid watching/reading/listening to the news as I find it triggers my anxiety, however I still have a general grasp on current events.
I absolutely adore the Golden Age of Hollywood. OId-school films and movie musicals bring me so much joy. Some particular favourites include Roman Holiday, Singin' in the Rain, Brigadoon, Kiss Me Kate, Some Like It Hot, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'm also a huge Disney fan - Belle is my favourite princess. As far as modern movies I enjoy, I watch a very wide range, from rom-com to super heroes and even psychological thrillers. Just don't ask me to watch a horror or anything with excessive violence. I like to be able to sleep!
