About Me

I'm originally from Central Coast California, but went to college in Portland, Oregon and have been traveling all around since graduating in 2007.

I've lived in Pueblo, Colorado, San Diego, California, Gallup, New Mexico, Jacksonville, FL and I now reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I'm currently substitute teaching and working towards a Master's in Special Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I love Chattanooga and have had a blast exploring the city!

When I am not working or in class I love to knit, cook, drink coffee, read and enjoy the outdoors.

Favorite Music

The Doors, Neil Young, Ben Folds, Blind Pilot, Regina Spektor, Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Neko Case, Alternative Country and 90's Country.

Favorite Books

Paula Vogel, Sarah Ruhl, Tom Robbins, I also enjoy a good manga or two ;) Oh! and Harry Potter! I guess I should also mention that I really like listening to books on CD/MP3. It's a great way to read and knit at the same time! I also enjoy knitting books and any cool pattern for socks or slippers!

Favorite Movies

Harry Potter, and anything else that looks funny or quirky! I've recently seen "Like Water for Chocolate" and it has edged out Harry Potter!

Favorite Television

The Office, Arrested Development, True Blood, Californication, Lost, Hung, Biggest Loser.

Favorite Crafts

Knitting! some sewing, some up-cycling.

Likes

Yarn and knitting supplies! Exotic spices Chocolate Anything interesting, unique, or cute! Green turtles birds organic food and paraben-free products I also really like to be surprised! For me, it's not getting exactly what I want that makes me happy, it is being surprised by something that I didn't know I liked!

Dislikes

Fruit and chocolate mixed together (including coconut) Pickles (Doubt anyone would send me those) Not too in to the goth/emo or Twilight series....but hey, who knows?!

Comment: Thanks for the thoughtful choice of book and CD. I will let you know if I like them! I think now is a good time for me to start reading Margaret Atwood. I'd heard of her before but haven't tried diving in before now. *5/01/2010 I am so so hooked on Margaret Atwood now!*

Comment: Thanks for the generous package of candy!! My kids had fun helping me open it as you can imagine. You can't get any of them in the UK, apart from the Skittles and even those are different as we don't have the grape flavour. Thanks again!!

Comment: Thanks for the I Love Lucy card!! Rock on, bobba-lu! You are definately a girl after my own heart. I once saw Tom Petty at Red Rocks in Denver (where U2's Under a Blood Red Sky was filmed) and had seen the Doobie Bros. there the night before too. I had to go to the Emergency room the morning after the Doobies but checked out in time to make TP & the Heartbreakers-nothing was going to keep me from that show! I've seen them in concert many times since too.

Thanks so much for sending me the Blind Assassin. I finished it tonight. It was so beautiful. Margaret Atwood is my new favorite writer. I will be recommending this to everybody.

Whiskers on Feb 15, 2010:

Hello Jessica I have your name for the book swap. I wish I had seen this swap about 3 months ago. I just gave away boxes of old knitting patterns from my grandmother. I was able to find some of her old patterns that have booties, slippers, socks and hats in them as well as some afghans. I love making scarves and afghans myself. Donate most of them to hospital groups. I am also sending you one of her old knitting primers that has 50 stitch patterns. If you make a block of each pattern they can be turned into a quilt and you will learn how to make all those beautiful patterns. I started this quilt one time myself but only got about 1/4 of the way through it. I did learn a lot though.

If these books and patterns are not acceptable please let me know. Smiles Sandra AKA Whiskers
