Hi, there! My name is Nic and I live in sunny Phoenix, AZ. I'm an avid cyclist. Mostly road cycling, but I also love vintage cruisers. Hiking is also a big passion of mine.
Two cat roommates live with me. An itty bitty black kitty named Pigeon and a giant 22lb half-Bengal named Walrus. And also two betta fish (DiAngelo and Chopstick). They are all awesome.
Things I like: Bikes (especially roadies and vintage cruisers); Dinosaurs; Daisies and sunflowers; Tattoos; Mooses; Skulls and bones (anatomically correct, not creepy); Dia de Los Muertos; Baking; Jesus pictures; Buddha (thin, not fat); Tasteful nudes (either sex); Outer space; Deep ocean creatures (giant squid, angler fish, etc.); Thrift stores (they're the best places to find weird things); Unusual bowls; Cute miniatures; Fun sunglasses; Boot socks in interesting designs (no wool or acrylic); Chunky bracelets; Fabric headbands that tie; Vintage jewels
I've gotten back into film photography. Have any film you don't want? I'll gladly take it off your hands or trade for it. Especially if it's expired. Any size, color, or effect. Even Polaroid. Film will always guarantee a heart. :)
Colors are awesome. I like them all. On three seperate occasions involving three completely unrelated people visiting my living space for the first time, they have said my decor looks like a rainbow threw up on everything. I like it this way. :) (In other words, I don't have favorites and anything you send will make me happy.)
I've been vegetarian for over thirteen years. This is a pretty important part of my life. So important that "against meat" in kanji is tattooed on my leg. (If we're in a food swap together, please take not of this. Gelatin is not vegetarian. Dairy and egg products are fine. Thanks!)
I pretty actively promote awareness for malignant melanoma. That awful cancer took my big brother away far too early. Imagery involved with that is always welcome. Black is the official ribbon color. I'm not easily offended, so F cancer campaigns and such are just fine.
Though it doesn't offend me, I would prefer no bible quotes. Jesus imagery supersedes that though, so if they're attached it's all good. Quotes from Buddhism and scientists are always good. I do not care for angels or saints.
I love handmade postcards and cards. Even if a swap specifies store bought, feel free to make me one if you'd prefer. They're so much more fun! I also really like antique postcards, but prefer they are sent in an envelope, as quite a few have been severely damaged in the post.
It's hard to pick favorites. Mostly enjoy reading nerdy science books (physics is phun!), history, memoirs, social sciences, and highly accurate historical fiction. Chick Lit, romance, and "airplane myteries" don't interest me at all.
Honestly, there isn't much in the music world I dislike. Not a big fan of modern country or the blues. Pretty much everything else is fair game.
Top Five (in no particular order): David Bowie, Bjork, David Byrne, Opeth, Tom Waits
I like a lot of psychological thrillers. Dislike horror and gore of any kind. And I'm a sucker for Disney and Pixar animated films.
Labyrinth; Dark Crystal; Pi; Momento; Dark City; Beauty and the Beast; Monsters, Inc.
I rarely watch tv. But my guilty pleasure show is America's Next Top Model. Big Bang Theory is also good stuff.
I like trying anything new. Especially if it involves glitter or glue guns. Paper crafts tend to be what I do most often. Recently bought a sewing machine and hope to become decent at sewing more than simple, straight lines.
My drawing skills are laughable, but I enjoy doing it anyway. Sometimes I dabble in painting. For fun, I like to pull out a random assortment of craft supplies and challenge myself to make as many things as possible in a set amount of time. It's always interesting what ends up in the made pile.
Randomness:
I'm HIGHLY allergic to artificial scents and colors. Perfume is an evil migraine inducing devil.
I'm also highly allergic to acrylic and wools. (Which is very inconvenient when shopping for winter sweaters, accessories, and blankets. Ugh.)
Please do not send me coffee of any sort. Or any hot chocolate that has marshmallow in it. (Unless you know of a company that makes cocoa with vegan marshmallows, which would be an excellent surprise.)
I have a mohawk, so barrettes don't do much for me. And my ears are gauged, so regular earrings don't work.
As of yet, I haven't sent any swaps late. Most have been sent within the first two days of address assignments. If something doesn't get to you, please let me know. I will always be willing to resend.
I'm open to private swaps. It's so hard as a newbie to get involved in the super fun swaps. But I promise I'm reliable! :)
