Gabi, poke around A LOT in Newbie Helpers! That's the purpose of the group. :o) And you can always ask me questions, especially for something you may not want to be public. If I can't help you, I can probably point you in the direction of someone who can. ;o) As far as newbies being assigned mentors, something like that isn't what the ambassadors are for. They're for promoting swap-bot off site. And it would have to be on a completely volunteer basis, as not everyone would want to be a mentor.

I see you're a member of the 'Newbie Helpers' group (me too). There's tons of helpful info on their site, and the founders are very savvy swappers who can advise you with a special problem. If you post a question in their forum, you'll find there are plenty of long time swapper members with good advice. It's one group that it pays to check in with regularly! Also, reading the
'Frustrations' section of the public forum will definitely educate you. It can also be quite entertaining! ;oP
