About Me

badge

Please don't ever feel pressured to give me a heart. I will always meet swap requirements so, rating me a 5 is just fine with me. :)

My name is Kristin. I'm married to a wonderful IT professional named Mark.

Where I live: Currently living in Colorado Springs, CO. My hometown is Farmington, NM.

Current job: I'm a collector for the billing department of a group of law firms. I collect from the banks, not you, don't worry. I actually love my job.

Religion: I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

General Likes

  • All things Orange. Just the color makes me happy. Everything from a post-it note to a hunting jacket! laugh It is my favorite color and makes me extremely happy!

  • Karaoke! It is something I can't get enough of.

  • Journaling - I am absolutely obsessed with it. I buy journals in the anticipation of filling them. I actually was directed here by someone who did a journal swap. I love journaling. I have journaled something every single day since 2008. I am a text-journaler. I do a lot of "tape the ticket in," but my journals are 95% text and those are also the type of journals I like to receive when possible. Art journals don't speak to me.

  • True Crime - I am a little obsessed. How obsessed? Well...I attended CrimeCon 2018 in Nashville. I love crime shows, crime books, and I most obsessed with True Crime podcasts.

General Dislikes

  • Altered books

  • No hot drinks for me, please (tea, coffee)

  • NO Kawaii.

  • Profanity

  • Nudity/teh pr0n - I'm 100% prude. Tis true!

  • Ok, I was trying to not be picky, but I've been getting a lot of scrapbooking and paper craft supplies. I don't really do any of those crafts, so have no use for them. I like stickers, but punch outs and tags don't really jive with anything I do.

  • That's really all I can think of. I'm really not picky. Just excited to be swapping with you fine people.

Favorite Television

  • All My Children - I watched it from when I was conceived until it was cancelled in 2011.

  • Cold Case - This was such an incredible show. I wish they could get it approved for DVD. Vera is my favorite character and I don't "ship" anyone.

  • Big Love - I loved this show so much while it was on. It makes me sad the seasons are so short! Love the drama! Margene is my favorite wife. I do not ship Margene/Ben. I recently binge watched the series two times in a row. Because I have a problem.

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I just love it. Xander is my favorite character. I ship Spike and Buffy.

  • Spongebob - Yes, I'm 12. I still enjoy Spongebob. sigh

  • Dark Angel is my favorite 90s show. I watch it at least once a year. I am a Max/Logan shipper.

  • I Love Lucy - is there a more perfect sitcom out there? I think not.

  • Dick Van Dyke - Incredibly funny! Love the classics.

  • Criminal Minds - I even do a workout challenge while watching. :)

  • Community

  • Law & Order SVU

Favorite Movies

This is a difficult category for me because I love movies. The following list is in no particular order.

  • Legally Blonde
  • Titanic
  • 3:10 to Yuma (newer one)
  • Charade - Carey Grant and Audrey Hepburn
  • Peter Pan (2003)
  • Lord of the Rings trilogy
  • Follow that Bird
  • Grease
  • Moulin Rouge
  • Wizard of Oz
  • Newsies
  • V for Vendetta
  • The Postman
  • August Rush
  • The Court Jester
  • Stephen King's Rose Red
  • Juno
  • Sliding Doors
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • Hard Candy
  • Easy A
  • Down with Love

And a TON more! I love movies. :)

Favorite Books

I have 6 favorites and then others I just like.

  • Tom Jones by Henry Fielding - this book is about a foundling child who is raised by a rich Squire. Tom Jones is a bit of a rapscallion, always causing and getting into trouble. He is in love with his neighbor Sophia, but because he is base-born, the match is not eash. It's really an incredible read from a witty and intelligent author.

  • Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - a dystopian world where Fireman burn books! Books are essentially illegal and people are obsessed with screens on the wall (sound familiar?).

  • The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson - a beautiful novel about a man who is seriously burned in a fire and as he recovers, meets a woman who believes they have been bonded together through several lives and she tells him about their previous lives together.

  • The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - a sad and beautiful novel about a girl who is murdered. The story is told after she has gone into the afterlife, but is watching the lives of those she knew after she has gone. The writing in this novel is beautiful.

  • A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb - this novel is about Helen, a light (ghost) who finds herself being seen for the first time since she died. This book can be found in the YA section, but I actually think is more suited to late teens and older. The prose reads like poetry. Every word is beautiful. I knew this would make my favorites list 12 pages in to the book.

  • Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne - the story of a man who makes a wager that he can circumnavigate the world in only 80 days. He ends up being tailed by a detective who mistakenly thinks he is a criminal. I love reading this and feeling the anticipation of "will he make it!!?". No movie has even come close to how great this book is.

Genres I do not generally enjoy: romance, historical romance, science fiction, fantasy, horror...

Favorite Music

  • NSYNC - Lance and JC were my faves
  • Trace Adkins
  • Savage Garden
  • Blackhawk
  • James Taylor
  • Dan Fogelberg
  • Monkees
  • America
  • I like 80s and 90s country music, in general
  • I like 80s music, in general

  • I'm generally an all-around music kind of gal with the exception of gangster rap-type stuff and really hard metal. Even within those categories there are exceptions.

PODCASTS: *True Crime Garage *Sword and Scale *Generation Why *These are Their Stories *Harry Potter and the Sacred Text *Thirty, Twenty, Ten *Buffering the Vampire Slayer *In the Dark *Small Town Murder

POSTCARDS

I join a lot of postcard swaps, so thought I'd add this section to my profile. I am not picky about the pcs you send me. I, of course, will always appreciate pcs that have something to do with the "likes" on my profile. And I'm always up for a private PC swap!

But otherwise, I'm really more interested in your words. So, if you are looking for a way to dump your "ugly" pcs, write something interesting on the back and send them to me. :)

Handmade pcs are a-ok with me. :)

I prefer naked, written on, and stamped. But always happy to accept blank postcards as extras in a swap if you are so inclined.

Comment: Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I haven't read Lock & Key, but did watch the first season on Netflix. It really does have a Stephen King feel, for sure. :) I really like Joe Hill, though, too. :) In the Netflix show, I know the Key house is in Massachusetts - I think part of the outdoor filming was done not too far from where we lived in MA at the time, which is what got me to watch the show! It does look like a great place to explore. :) I hadn't heard of Up a Road Slowly, but I looked it up and added it to my TBR. IT looks like something I would like, not sure how I missed it. I had to laugh - long distance phone calls being a luxury was the way I was raised! haha Doesn't seem that old fashioned to me. :) haha Thanks for sharing! It was a lot of fun to read!

Comment: It is tough to read outside favorite genres, I have to agree. This article was a good reminder to me when I read and have to review romance type books - They are so unrealistic to everything in my life. Or are for a totally different age group. But also like you said with twisty books - I see those coming a mile out! haha I've really come to hate the 'unputdownable' reference (mostly because it's not a word!) because those books are such snooze-a-thons for me. So this article really helped me out. I was a bit different with Harry Potter - I had a friend who bugged me non-stop to read the books and finally made a deal with me that if I read the first 4 and didn't LOVE them she'd never bring it up again. I didn't love the first 4 books - and we didn't stay friends much longer. I did finally listen to all of HP with my kids and I thought they were ok, but no where near what others thought. Oh well. One of my pals told me about a book, "The Book of Lost Names" that is a WWII book - I avoid those because they are a bit over done lately - she hadn't read it, but thought it wounded good, so I read it and LOVED it, and passed it on to her. Hopefully she enjoys it. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Comment: Thank you for sharing your list. :) I've seen the Anna K books on reading lists, but haven't read them yet. Based on your comments, I think I'll be sure to skip the sequel. :) I actually only ever read the first Twilight book - it was ok to me, but not one where I couldn't get ahold of the next book. I think I watched the first movie, but I don't even remember it. It's always disappointing when an author changes the story from what you wish, isn't it? I lost interest in the Anita Blake series (Laurell K Hamilton) when she paired Anita up with Jean-Claud :( Poor choice to me! :) And - OH! Ink & Bone!!! Isn't that book great? I read them years ago and then we listened to the first book together as a family & the kids got caught up in the series, but books 2 &3 were a bit disappointing so we gave up! Have you ever watched the Librarians? I think there are books to - love anything in libraries! :) I might have to check out In Every Generation if I can find it - I'm a Buffy fan. :) Thanks for sharing your great list!
