I'm a librarian at a major university in the US South...
an avid knitter and knitting designer...
mom to 2 active kids and wife to a wacky dh...
I read most things, mainly women's literature (NOT chicklit) and science fiction, poetry, popular nonfiction... I never read romance or westerns, and rarely read spy novels (LeCarre is the exception). Lately I've been reading a lot of knitting books - particularly everything the Yarn Harlot writes.
I garden, particularly veggies and herbs (culinary and medicinal).
On the weekends I like to garden, go to the art or science museum w/my family, go to a minor league/college baseball game (women's basketball in the winter), go swimming, go to the farmer's market, go to church, etc.
My favorite color is blue. My favorite flower is the daylily. My favorite time of day is twilight (other than the mosquitoes). My favorite food is macaroni and cheese, though since I am always watching my weight I don't eat it that often. I love olives, pickles, and artichokes, but am allergic to onions. I like odd photography, fish, boats, flowers, and landscapes - but am turned off by "cute" images, caricatures, anthropomorphized animals.
We have a rescue dog who is generously called an "American Hound" - she is of unknown pedigree, possibly Pointer/beagle mix. Very sweet, cute, and a total love-puppy.
I'm participating in swaps because I like connecting with other creative people - not to get more stuff. I'm interested in HOW people make things, and in the materials they use, but not necessarily finished objects that will take up space. Useful things - washcloths, bags, hats & scarves (warning: I have a small head) are the exception.
Sting/Police (and 80s in general), Sarah McLaughlin, Celtic pop, opera, English choral music, 20th Cent. "classical" (Vaughan Williams, Barber). Mostly I listen to NPR on the radio, but also support my local classical station (WCPE). I occasionally listen to a random mix station when I'm gardening and need something mindless.
The Princess Bride - I try to work in a reference/quote to it every day. I also love The Mummy, Lord of the Rings, remakes of Shakespeare, Armageddon, Bond, etc. I cry at movies, and so mostly rent/watch on TV rather than go out.
Stargate SG1, Lost, The X Files (all time fave), America's Next Top Model (dirty little secret), Designed to Sell, The Daily Show, Doctor Who. We no longer have cable and have bad antenna reception in our house, so mostly I watch TV via Netflix and Hulu.
Knitting! I also grow herbs and enjoy making herbal-based crafts like bath soaks, etc. I've dabbled with decoupage using postage stamps. I can sew, but don't do it all that often (not as portable as knitting).
I do no paper crafts to speak of, so please don't send me ATC/scrapbooking supplies. I'll just recycle them. Sorry!

I received your sweet letter today. I'm sorry which swap were we in? I love everything about your letter. Especially the note about looking over your shoulder when you rip out a page from a book, me too! Anyway you are very sweet. Thank you!
hope you found both handmade items to be useful. I was so nervous sending "finished objects that take up space"! :) Hope you liked your handmade happiness. melly~
