About Me

Update 1/19/16

38/f, greatly in love with, and married to my best friend.

Reader, LONG LETTER (15+ typed page) pen paller, video gamer.

I am not your run of the mill gal. I love football (Steelers) and baseball (Nats & Rays), and I don't just SAY I love them, I actually do know my sports. Occasionally I will watch Nascar (Kahne, McMurray, Edwards), Golf and some Olympic sports. I don't care for wrestling/boxing or basketball. I have tattoos, I use to scuba dive, I love photography (tho i don't have my camera right now). I love to read!! I would rather watch an action movie than a chick flick. Bleh.

I am an atheist, if this offends you, please don't waste either of our time. I am open minded, non judgmental and ask the same, no matter what your faith, or lack thereof, is.

TLDR Basics ~ I'm verbose. If you don't like it, it's time for you to read no more here. I don't use Twitter. I use 100 words instead of 10. Take me or leave me. I'm honest to a fault, strict when it comes to swappers and rating. I don't care what you think of me, if you don't like me, I don't need you in my life. Life is too short and too sucky to let random strangers online upset me. Married 11+ years to my Best Friend, known each other 23+ years. Voracious reader, read 300ish books a year. Gamer, built my own gaming PC. LONG letter writer, 15+ typed pages.

Gaming!

I love to play video games almost as much as i love to read. I enjoy puzzle adventure type games (Portal/Portal 2, Braid, Quantum Conundrum), Batman (Arkham Asylum/City/Origins), love Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts.

We have an XBox360, PlayStation 2 & 3, and a Wii. In Mar 2015, I built my own gaming PC ~ Widget.

Widget is AWESOME and we get so much use out of him. A few games we've enjoyed so far are ~ Dead Rising 3, Watch Dogs, Talos Principal, Batman Arkham Knight, SKYRIM, Subnautica, various Portal games and much more. I love my gaming PC!

Favorite Books

Reading is my passion! Graphic above links to my blog, if you'd like to follow me and what I'm reading.

I have far toooo many favorites to list, especially since I've really been reading outside my "comfort zone" a lot. It's easier to just say what I WON'T read, which is ~ ChickLit, non-fic, Classics, New Adult, tear jerkers. I'll try anything that sounds good to ME, but what sounds good to me is usually very action packed or a good mystery. I like a lot of action in my books, I hate hate hate people standing around talking about their feeling. Gag me with a fork.

In my opinion, the BEST 3 books I have ever read - The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and The Great Zoo of China by Matthew Reilly. These 3 couldn't be more different from each other, and I loved every one of them!

I disliked 50 Shades. I can recommend much better! Please do not mistake 50 Shades as BDSM, it is NOT!! Instead, read Cherise Sinclair and her Club Shadowlands series, that'll show you what real SSC BDSM is all about. Ask me if you'd like to know more.

I've challenged myself to read the YA books that appeal to me from Epic Reads 365 Days of YA. There are close to 70 that I may want to get to this year, we'll see how many I actually read. Some YA I've loved so far ~

  • Harry Potter
  • Hunger Games
  • Timebound series by Rysa Walker
  • Taken series by Erin Bowen
  • Game series by Eve Silver
  • Selection series by Kiera Cass
  • Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
  • Cruel Beauty Universe by Rosamund Hodge
  • Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott
  • and much much more.

Sora & Naminé

The morning of 11/05/15, I kept hearing a dog whining/barking. I kept looking outside but didn't see anything. After this went off and on for 2 hours I managed to spot it..... an ADORABLE little puppy who ran right up to me. No collar, but clearly clean and healthy, I brought her in and fed her.

She hasn't left my side since. :)

We weren't sure what she was at first, and we're still not 100% certain, but we are fairly sure that she is a Ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback! Which means she'll likely be bigger than our Pit Bull. She has all the physical looks of one, except her ears are not big. She's also quite yappy/barky, so we aren't sure what she's mixed with.

Meet Sora ~ one of 1st photos I took beginning Nov.

Pal Requests

Not currently seeking out new pals at this time, but if you understand the following, do feel free to message me.

How long of a letter do YOU consider long? I see, often, long letter meaning (to others) 4-6 pages by hand. This is not what long is, to ME.

I am hoping to find someone who enjoys writing a lot and making a true friendship, like I do. For me, a long letter is at least 10-15+ pages TYPED (single space, regular or no margins) and 20-30+ handwritten, but I do understand that doesn't come right away. I'm not a snob, I don't request a certain length but I WILL NOT accept a handwritten front/back of one to three pages. Also, a lot of questions is a MUST. If you don't bother to ask a question, I really don't know what to say to you. FYI - I will only type my letters, but they are not form.

Prefer USA pals, due to postage reasons.

I'm VERY picky with my pals. I really enjoy opening up and sharing anything and everything in time. But I want my pals to make the same effort as me. I don't want to be another on a list, but prefer just one or two really close pals/friends. I try to stay very upbeat in my letters and while I don't mind hearing my pals problems, I prefer not getting a completely depressing intro. I've had that happen two or three times lately and it's not the way I prefer to start a pal friendship.

I don't mind writing first, my first letter tends to be only about 7 pages (typed) as I don't put out a lot of effort until I know it will last. I've been palling again for well over a year now, and I have 10 or so pals. My best 5 pals, all write either 10+ typed pages or multiple letters a month. The last letter I received from my long time pal was 43 pages, a mix of hand and typed. THATS what I'm looking for! LOOOOOONG Letters ONLY!! 10+ typed, 25+ by hand!

PCs & swaps

Note about Postcards ~ I'm not a postcard collector, but since people like PC swaps in my group, I have been joining more. PC themes I like ~

  • Disney (any but Pooh, and especially park based)
  • theme/amusement parks
  • Roller Coasters & other thrill rides in parks
  • football/baseball stadiums (especially for my teams)
  • bookshelves/libraries of books
  • dolphins, belugas or seahorses
  • waterfalls, oceans
  • nude, erotic, XXX

I recently did a swap to obtain PCs for swapping. They are a mix of all different kinds. If I can tailor it to your likes, I will, if not, I'm very sorry. I didn't want to buy PC so I just traded and will probably continue to trade for some and have no control over what I get.

I mainly do letter swaps, either long lettered or ones about books. I had joined some package swaps, such as the Thrift Store one, but I've decided not to join in on those any longer, even the new ones, though I may not rule out an occasional Pen Pal Supply type thing.

I will probably only stick with the letter swaps, but in the off chance I do something else, I thought I would keep my likes and dislikes just in case.

I typically send same day as partners are assigned, unless it's a long term thing, of course. Emails go out same day, as do some letter swaps. When it's a long letter swap (my favorite) I wait until it's assigned and then tailor my letter to my partner, and send out within a day or two. I alert my Intl partners when I send, so they can be on the lookout. I will check on email partners about a week later, as I have had some emails go through to Spam or them not receive them at all. I will not badger, I just don't want to get a bad rating because my partner didn't receive anything but didn't tell me. I ALWAYS send my swaps. If "life" happens, I will complete the swaps I can't drop out of, drop out of others, and will not join anymore. I never intend to flake.

NOTE ABOUT RATING I have changed the way I rate. I now rate after the swap is completed, AND after I've received all/most of the swaps. I rate all swaps on one day. This is to keep track of my swaps easier. I'll always rate, just not as quickly as I once did.

Dislikes

I'm not a girlie girl!! The most girly thing I like are candles, but see likes for those!

I dislike ~

  • frilly, flowery, lacey, vintage, girlie!
  • colors ~ yellow, orange
  • handmade items (and won't swap for those)
  • craft supplies
  • cosmetics, perfume, jewelry, bath & body items
  • religious stuff
  • most chocolates (Unless it's Reese's)

Unless it is specific to a swap ~ I do NOT like letter sets or stationery under 8.5x11 (A4 for those outside the U.S). As you can see from above, I write LOOOONG letters and letter set size pages (5x8 or A5 and smaller) just don't work out for me.

NOTE ~ These dislikes are for things being sent to me for a swap. You don't have to tailor what you send the swap on to these. You can send orange lettersets, if you like, or any other combo. This is just for my rare type 3 swaps and what I don't want to receive for those.

Likes

Things I love ~

  • decorative (A4 or 8.5x11) stationery, especially computer paper
  • standard notebooks, journals, full size (A4 or 8.5x11) loose paper, pads and such
  • DL size (long) envelopes
  • colors ~ purple, light blues & teals, black & white with red
  • gel pens
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Washington Nationals
  • nude, erotic, XXX items ~ books, photos, toys, ect...
  • dolphins (the animal)
  • Disney (no Pooh)
  • some Sanrio (Cinnamoroll, Chococat, Keropi)
  • video game items from Portal & Kingdom Hearts
  • used books
  • PlayStation 2 & 3, XBox360 & Wii Games
  • Candles in CINNAMON or PEACH only

Think, what would your husband/boyfriend/brother like and that would be more in MY tastes. Very tomboyish with a love for sports, video games and computer stuff.

Books Music & TV

My husband and I are both HUGE readers. We've both made the switch to Kindles, but I still love the look of books. :) Pinterest has given me soooooo many ideas on decorating with books, so I want to give it a go!! :)

I'm looking any book in any condition, especially those listed below. From new to used, perfect to worn, I'm looking for any book but ripped to shreds. :) Will take any book of your hands (no religion). Especially looking for ~

  • The Night Circus ~ Erin Morgenstern

  • Harry Potter (series and anything about the Maurader's Map)

*****And for my personal collection, I would take any and all TRIXIE BELDEN. I use to have the full series (39 books) plus doubles and lost them all. I have 12 again and grab any I find. For those who don't know, the series is like a young version of Nancy Drew and was written in 1948-1986. I ADORE these books and find them in used book stores or thrift stores sometimes for CHEAP. I take any in any condition. More info about them ~ Trixie Belden Series*****

I don't listen to a lot of music. I was sheltered as a child and didn't get an love of music. I listen to mainly soft rock. My favorite artists are PENTATONIX & Clay Aiken (yes, I'm a Claymate).

I also enjoy Home Free Vocal Band, Rascal Flatts, Boys 2 Men, NKOTB, Blake Shelton, Christina Agulerra, Celine Dion. If I'm listening to music and it's NOT Pentatonix, it's something on Spotify.

I find myself watching less and less TV. Those shows I still enjoy are ~ NCIS, Big Bang Theory, How to Get Away with Murder, American Ninja Warrior. We always watch the Nationals during baseball and watch football as well. Right now we have NFL Sunday Ticket so I'm able to watch my Steelers, and my Hubby is able to watch His Bucs.

Shows I have enjoyed but haven't really be keeping up with lately ~ Castle, The Following, The Voice, Unforgettable, Tanked, Face-Off, Treehouse Masters.

old shows i miss --- WAREHOUSE 13!!! SMALLVILLE!! ALMOST HUMAN, Ground Floor, Intelligence, The Sing-Off, Lie to Me, Lost, Star Trek TNG & Voyager

Comment: OMG! Do you sleep, do you ever go for a walk? Are all those essentially comic books? How many pages, how many words per book? You really must have a real life besides reading or do you work as a slush pile reader for a publisher? I've never received a list like this! Amazing.
Response: Yup, I sleep. I rarely go for a walk. No, none of them were comics. Pages vary from the 10 pg short story to 560 pages (The Keeper). Average page count is usually in the 300s, read nearly 25000 pages in 100 books so far this year. I don't have much of a real life. I don't work, we have no car. When my Hubby is at work, I read. I read 335 books last year, am at 100 for the year so far this year. I just love to read and find my enjoyment in books. I read the shorter books (Nancy & Trixie average of 150-200 pages) during team challenges where to "win" you read the most pages in the least amount of time.

Some happy mail coming your way! Won't have any of my info on it when it comes but I think you'll be able to figure it out. Hint: the random number generator came up with #20. ;) :)

KSENiA on Mar 13, 2016:

Well, it was suppose to be smaller... Ups. I just started reading long awaited sequel to Jennifer Foehner Wells Confluence series - Remanence. If you like nice Space opera with interesting female scientist lead and a little romantic element - you should try it. Also it has great cover art.

Interesting Book Facts:

  • The Japanese word ‘tsundoku’ means ‘buying a load of books and then not getting round to reading them’.
  • SF writer Isaac Asimov is the only author to have published a book in 9 out of the 10 Dewey library categories.
  • The first book bought on Amazon was called Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought.
  • In order to feel close to it, Joan Didion often sleeps in the same room as the book she is working on.
  • The earliest known written instance of the word ‘book’ is in a book by Alfred the Great.

Books

What KateKintail is currently reading (a strange variety):

  • The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex
  • You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost): A Memoir by Felicia Day
  • Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol 16: Deadpool by Brian Michael Bendis, others
  • Othello by William Shakespeare
  • The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh: A Walk Through the Forest that Inspired the Hundred Acre Wood by Kathryn Aalto

Books

PS- As a gamer, you should totally read Felicia Day's book, if you haven't already. It's magnificent!

Hello! I love books and reading (as I'm sure all of us in the group do)! I hope you like the pictures that I have chosen. I recently started my master's in library science degree, so I've focused my pictures on libraries and librarians.

Hello! Smadronia here for the CL: Book Related Profile Comment.

I swear, you read more books than ANYONE I have ever met. I know I can usually find a book or two on your monthly reading log that I'll find interesting, even if we don't see eye to eye on whether it's a good book.

Hi there! this is your CL: Book Related Profile Comment. I too am a lover of holding a real book but also recently switched over to an Amazon Fire Kindle and I have to say I am really pleased. That said I thought I would recommend a book to you that I have on my "To Read" list because I also liked "The Night Circus" so much. It is -

" Some Kind of Fairy Tale" by Graham Joyce .

I definitely plan on getting to it this year.

Happy Reading! Caly
