First Line email swap

For fiction writers, we're told that we have to grab the reader from the first. Let's practice! Write something that will blow your reader's mind and make them hungry for more. Any genre is welcome. It doesn't necessarily have to be one sentence. (i.e.: "Oh, sh*t.") But it does need to be VERY brief, not a paragraph.

Here's an example from a book by Lisa Carey called IN THE COUNTRY OF THE YOUNG. "She was only a girl--an unwanted, invisible child, crouched within the beginning of her life--but when she died, it changed everything."
