Handmade Postcard Series ~ Giant PC!! ~

A while back, I participated in a "Huge Postcard" swap. It was so fun creating on such a large "canvas" that I have been wanting to do it again.

The USPS allows postcards as large as 11-1/2 inches long, by 6-1/8 inches high, by 1/4 inch thick to be mailed for only 44 cents!

For this swap, we will make a postcard NO SMALLER than 6"x11" out of sturdy cardboard, cereal box, etc. What you do with it after that is up to you - paint, draw, alter, zentangle, collage, stamp, decoupage, sew, write, glue, add-on, rub-on, emboss...you name it!! Do as much as you can to it. Have a look at your partner's profile to see what they're into (though in this group, I think its safe to say mail art, collage, postage stamps, etc!) & make sure you don't use a color they can't stand. Please think about what you'd like to receive & don't just slap a few stickers or stamps on it. The more, the better!

Swap Requirements:

• send 1 giant postcard to 1 partner (dimensions above)
• postcard must be heavily embellished/altered/decorated
• postcard must be sent naked, meaning stamped & postmarked
• take a picture of your card on the day you are sending it & e-mail this picture to your partner that day. This will c.y.a. in the event its lost or damaged in transit, or never makes it to your partner!
• if sending internationally, put card in clear plastic for protection. Some other countries postal systems aren't as good as ours!!
• make sure to address your postcard correctly and put your SB name & the name of the swap somewhere on the card.

You can be rated down for not meeting all of the above requirements. I'm sorry to sound so militant, but after making the most amazing pc I could for my partner, I received a flimsy, plain, boring postcard with about 6 canceled stamps randomly stuck to it. I don't want this to happen to me or anyone this time around!!

I'd like to say this will be a low-postage swap, and it might be for some. Depending on what you do to your pc, you may need to reinforce it in some way or send it in clear plastic. I sent the one in the picture above naked. If you ask the clerk at your p.o. they will let you put the stamp on it, postmark it and then allow you to put it in a clear plastic sleeve for mailing. If you put lots of dimensional add-ons, please secure & reinforce as much as possible with craft sealer, decoupage glue, etc. This is an international swap, so be prepared to spend more than .44 cents. (I always pay a little more to have my special mail art hand-canceled as well.)

If you don't have a plastic sleeve to fit your card, you can "make" your own. Most everything flat comes in clear plastic these days. Look around & see what you can find. Feel free to post ideas in the comments section below.
