Hello All!

Okay I love making fairy doors! But I do not have any mermaid doors. Sooo....

Lets make one Mermaid Door. No smaller than 5 inches tall and any shape you want. Make a really nice door. Decorate with anything that makes you think of mermaids and any shape that takes your fancy. You can decorate with shells, sea glass, found objects, polymer clay, fibers ect..

Make with a layer of heavy cardstock or cereal box cardboard on back to make sturdy. Sign the back with your info and swap info. Have fun, be creative, and make something that those lovely mermaids would be proud of!

I'm giving a nice long sign up and send time just in case any of us are new to door making. :)

All group rules apply. I will check profiles. Since this is a group swap should be all good! Newbies welcome! Everybody has to start somewhere! :) Any ???"S just let me know always ready to help!

By signing up, you pledge to RATE :)

Since this is senders choice you could get started right away if you want!! :D No flakers please!

I have never heard of this, what is it that you do with the door once finshed? I feel that a door should open into something?

You could have it open to a scene if you want. Most don't but that would be cool. I display mine up to the wall or on my window sill. Some like to put them on a tree. Makes it look like a special door for the fay or mermaids to come through. You can also hang them in random places, a little whimsy in an unexpected place! ;)

I don't have a pic of fairy one I made, but here is a birdhouse one that I made for a swap.

Also if you go to flickr and do a search on fairy doors you can find lots of ideas. Not many mermaid ones tho.

I love this idea!!! I hope I will be able to join. Yay!

I hope you can too! I'm glad you like the idea. :)

Should these open and close??? I am intrigued by this swap and want to join, but I am not totally sure of the expectations. The one pictured above does not appear to open and close...

I have not made one that opens. If you want to be brave you can try, but you don't have to. I make mine of clay and they don't open. however if you know how to make one that opens I say go for it!! You can of course make one with paper doors that open to a scene. I was thinking of using a pretty clam shell as the door and decorating the shell and the background to look like the ocean. Hope that helps clear up some confusion. If not let me know. Always happy to answer!! :)
