Description:

This is a fun project--

  1. Prepare an 8x10 stretched canvas with a good coat or two of gesso (your color choice).

  2. Take out your biggest box of crayons, close your eyes and pick three crayons out of it.

  3. Match those three colors with your choice of paint (acrylics, oils, alkyd, casein, latex house paint, tempera, etc) and make an abstract painting with the three, and one other color of your choice.

Simple enough? Use your color wisely, and creatively, don't just slap them on randomly. Pay attention to composition and values. Don't cheat and swap out the color crayon you don't like--this is a challenge!!

**I forgot to add that if you prefer to do a different canvas size or shape, like squares, that's fine, too. The minimum is the 8x10, or an 8x8 square. Just so someone won't be disappointed if they send something larger (which is ok, too) you should rate a 5 if you receive any canvas size from 8x8 or 8x10 and up.

I prefer the small sizes because I have seriously limited wall space, so I'll be giving hearts out for "small" LOL.**

Please don't use cheap canvas boards or other thin substrates, stretched canvases are inexpensive and easy to acquire online from art supply sites like [Dick Blick](http://www.dickblick.com/?wmcp=google&wmckw=[dick%20blick]&wmcid=adwords&gclid=CPmExJOFvaMCFZJ95QodxQ9fbw and Jerrysartarama/Art Supply Warehouse, as well as Michael's and JoAnns and other craft stores. You may use clayboard, quality gessoed 1/2" birch plywood, masonite or other quality substrates. Make this a real work of fine art.

Rated swappers must have at least 4.8 with no recent no-sends. Swapping Newbies with art/painting experience are welcome, but must contact me first.

There will be two months to make this painting, and you don't need to base them on your profile, so you can start right away--time for oils to dry, though acrylics are so gratifyingly fast!

A couple of questions for you. Can we mix the colors? Also, can black be used if we wish, since it's not a color or is it a no, no? This looks like an interesting challenge. I'm considering joining in.

Mixing the colors is ok, that's part of "Use your color wisely, and creatively, don't just slap them on randomly." , and if you get a black crayon, you can use that as one of your three, or it can be the other color of your choice.

This challenge was based on a series of paintings I did following these rules, and using Payne's Grey (the better dark than black in my book) as my 'other color of choice' and the results were pretty cool, so I thought it would be a fun project for a swap.
