Description:

Let's have fun trying some simple background techniques to make unique backgrounds that can be used for atcs, inchies, twinchies, tags, whatever!

We'll try three different background techniques, sender's choice (if you need some hints, take a peek here: http://www.easilyamusedhardtooffend.blogspot.com )

After making your backgrounds, assuming you're using 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, cut a strip from the paper that measures 3 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches long--you will basically cut the paper into two strips, one for each of your partners, and still have a slightly larger piece left over for you to keep. These strips will each be large enough to cut three atc size cards from, but DON'T cut them down to size--your swap partner may want to make a tag, or twinchies, or inchies . . .

You will mail each of your two partners one of each of your three different background strips. These will easily fit into a business size envelope, and will probably only take one stamp to mail, depending on the techniques you choose. It's also regional, to help make this an inexpensive swap.

We will all end up with enough new and original background technique papers to make at least 18 atcs (from our swap buddies), PLUS the extra we have left over from our own creations!

Since this is sender's choice, we can all begin now--as always, please be sure to send only what you would love to receive in return. Newbies welcome! No ratings under 4.9.

I haven't hosted a swap in years, so please ask questions and help me get this right!

I love making backgrounds, and hope that some of you do, too! :)

What are twinchies?

T 08/18/2009 #

twinchies are two inches square, so instead of an inchie, it's a twinchie. they're called twochies, too . . .

T - Great swap idea! Count me in. I have a few fun techniques in mind already. I checked out your watercolor wash background. Nice job/nice quote. I have been happily listening to your music playlist - we have a lot of the same taste in music!

Hey, Beth, thanks for joining--i'm glad you're liking the playlist, too!

and i posted a couple of bookmarks made with the serendipity style background, too, if anyone wants to take a look at something else you can make with a chunka background paper.

I'm new to how to make alot of these things, and have never seen any made by others so this should be a learning experience for me. I hope being a newbie is ok to join, thanks ^_^

Newbies are welcome--you aren't going to flake, are you??? ;)

There are LOTS of sites you can check out, and flickr pics, of atcs, inchies, collage backgrounds, etc. Do a search on any of those, and you could sit at the computer all day long looking at artwork!

i wondered if you'd consider hosting this swap again to include usa and canada, if not international? (i'm in canada, and would love to participate)

T 09/ 3/2009 #

hi, happy! if all goes well, i'll definitely give it a go again, and try it international. thank you for your interest, i appreciate it.

For the link T posted on Aug 22 -- the blogger has continued posting, so the third technique is now on the next page (click Older Posts). As time goes on, all three techniques might slip onto the second or later pages. But definitely worth seeking out.

Thank you, mythomia! Sorry about that--that blogger would be me--here are permanent links to each tutorial:

Plus, I'm having a giveaway that closes Sept. 15. If you'd like to take a look, it should be the first or second post to come up.
