Description:

I love animals! Over the last year I've adopted over 20 cats, 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, a duck, a chicken, a gerbil and a hamster! (I currently have 8 cats, 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, a gerbil and a hamster!)

For this swap, send one photo of your adopted friend and write a 1 page letter telling his or her story!! I get so sad hearing about the animals that don't get adopted and instead are put to sleep.. I figured this would be a great way to see some success stories!

You will have 2 partners! Newbies welcome!

Okay, as a volunteer with an animal rescue group (we rescue dogs and cats that are on the euthanasia list at the pound, scheduled to be put down), this swap is right up my alley. We always have a foster dog around and the other dog and one of our cats came straight from the pound. The other cat was left in my apartment by a former roommate (along with her other two cats, which I found other homes for). So technically, all three are rescues. Can't wait to see other pictures and hear about other peoples rescued pets!!

it's too bad this is US only - a pic and a letter are easy and inexpensive to mail anywhere...:(

Why can't this be international?

SimplyShnookly 05/25/2007 #

hmm, I don't know.. I guess it could be international! I just always have trouble getting mail overseas.. it seems like everytime I mail something it arrives broken or not at all.. BUT we'll give it a shot!

Delightful idea! I own a cat sanctuary - I have some of the most interesting, saddest and inspiring tales of the capacity that animals have to forgive. I love this idea. All of the cats in my shelter have their own stories and my own personal pets do as well, as they are also rescues. I am definitely in! I am looking forward to telling the story of Wagner (pronouned Vagner like the German composer) because he has a white ring around his tail (he is otherwise solid back) So he is named after The Ring operas. (The vet here didn't get it - what a dunce) Anyway, I think you have ocme up with a great idea!!

I worked in as a vet tech for 4 years. So I have alot of storys sad, happy ,and ones that make you want to cry. But I am also going to tell you what the vet tech's at the clinic I worked at do to save as many as we can. We can't save them all but we sure did try. Do you know how hard it is to hide a litter or 2 of kittens ? Its not easy but we had alot of tricks

i used to volunteer in the medical trailer at the local animal shelter and saw a lot of things there...inspiring and sad. this is a great chance to hear about others' success stories!

almost all of our critters are from the shelters...we have 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 birds, 2 lizards, some freshwater fish, and my daughter has 2 turtles.

even at that most are rescues...the lizards were chewed on by their siblings when they hatched (newly hatched lizards are ravenous!) so my two are missing a piece or two...

one bird we purchased outright, the other had not been hand raised by the breeder so he was "on sale" as not many folks will adopt conures that have not been at least partially trained. and one of my daughter's turtles was being sold by its owner as it was no longer wanted...

sigh...i don't understand us humans sometimes!

anyhow, thanks again for the great idea! i'm looking forward to hearing from my partners!

Thank you for this great swap idea. I love to tell people about my babies.

I wish there was a way to design a swap so we could share the joys of rescue with folks that have never tried it.

Just yesterday, out of the blue, a guy offered to buy a pup if I ever decided to breed my dogs. He was shocked to hear that I got them at a shelter so they were neutered. He said "I did not know that you could get good dogs at the pound". I had to give my "too many unloved animals - shelters are a great palce to get pets - why buy from a breeder when you can get any kind of dog you want at a shelter" speech. I get a little zealous when it comes to rescue.
