QUESTION: What exactly does the future floor wax do? Sealant? Are their any other substitutes from someone who would rather swap and create; then wax their floors? LOL.

the future floor wax is a liquid floor sealer i guess, it's runny, really thin. it also makes the tissue paper translucent. i'm not sure if you can substitute, experiment and let me know if you try something else. i know you can also use it to shine up your polymer clay beads. so craftwise, it's multipurpose. i have not tried the generic brand either. just bought a small bottle and keep it with my craft stuff.

I've also never used it on my floors. i don't clean very much or very well.

Thanks for hosting these technique swaps. I am going to pass on this one because it requires me to purchase too many supplies that i don't already have, and I'm trying to do more creating and less purchasing right now. But it sounds fabulous! I'll keep my eye out for the next month's swap. Thanks!

could you use alcohol inks instead of reinkers? I have a ton of alcohol inks, but no reinkers! (also, can I ask where you got this technique from? Just curious....the other technique really got me going on a stamping experimentation spree!) susi

Susi - i've used both, but the alcohol inks become very intense so use sparingly. I will search my archives and try to come up with the original link for everyone.
Also, as far as buying new stuff, other than the Future floor polish, if you keep your eyes open you can find transparency material free in packaging, got any old christmas cards in the box with the clear top? there ya go. Instead of re-inkers try mixing paint or use food coloring. Watercolors? I don't know but worth a try.

Has anyone tried this technique yet? Any pointers? I tried it out and got a mess. It wasn't very attractive at all. :-( I read a suggestion to get an aqua brush and use that to apply the Future. Does someone who has already tried it think that would be helpful?

I bought my Future floor polish this morning, and was worried that it was not the right stuff, because it is so thin. But reading your post, Dianne, I see that I got the right stuff. I like the idea of using something other than transpearncies... they seem expensive, bit now I need to find some clear plastic some where, LOL. I found a technique almost the same as the same as this one on Trish bee's site, she uses diamond glaze though, but it appeared to be about the same technique... but I won't try this one because i keep hearing about using Future on art projects, and since I am not that good of a housecleaner either, this gave me an excuse to but it. As for the reinkers, I think I may just try using either a watercolor wash, or diluted food coloring. I know i need to get reinkers someday, so many things call for them. So, off to create I am...wish me luck! susi

I just looked at the link Dianne sent, and I myself liked the second technique a bit better than the first one, it seems more simple, like Dianne's and gives some alternatives to use instead of reinkers, etc. (another good excuse to break out my perfect pearls, or radiant pearls, whatever they are called!)

Instead of transparencies you can use those report binders that come with the plastic binder thingy that you slid on over the side to hold it all together. I'd also think you can use liquid acrylic medium instead of the Floor wax, it does the same thing, though it's a tad thicker, but still liquid.

hey Cyn, great idea about the report covers! And the best thing is that you can get them at the dollar store, at least the see through color ones....I'll look for clear ones. i need them for another project as well. Like I said, Diamond Glaze also probably will be a good substite for the future. But me, being the free spirit that I am, am going to give it a shot with the future. Now I can go get the repost covers and I'll be set. Thanks for the idea Cyn. i was wracking my brain trying to figure out where to get the plastic without having to buy transperencies or a box of donut! LOL susi

About messes - when i say a puddle, a small puddle. I used a foam brush to push the future around and for the inks. Also, diamond glaze is so thick, i would think it wouldn't work and you'd wind up with a much thicker backing.

Another thing i didn't say but probably should have, once it's dry and you cut it out - you should be looking at the NON tissue papered side. So you're working on the back, then turning it OVER to see what you've got.

Don't use a stamp that is too detailed or too dark. Lots of open areas to let the design show through.

Just wanted to add that I've used crinkled aluminium foil in place of the tissue and that looks very pretty too! In fact I will probably use the foil in my atcs I send. I like the effect better than the tissue.

I've played around and absolutely L-O-V-E the results I got! I actually made 13 ATCs today using the technique and still have another full sheet of transparency already made. I also found that I like making the mess on the back first and then rubber stamping afterwards so that I can stamp and area that I like better than another area. Hope that makes sense. Can't wait to check out the August technique.
