What Are We Swapping?

  • A letter talking about your spoonie life. Please mention what your condition is. Anything else is up to you. Some ideas are what you do to deal with the stress of it all, what meds you have taken and/or are on, what you have lost and/or gained since a diagnosis, etc.
  • It must be at least 1 page (5x8 inches or A5 size, 1page= 1 side of a page) long. More is preferable, but I know some days just 1 page is the limit if I'm lucky to be able to write at all.
  • Handwritten or typed - it's senders choice.
  • No extras are required. You can send extras of course, but they may not get you a heart. Send extras because you want to - not for a heart.

Ratings & Whatnot

  • You must have a rating of at least 4.8.
  • You cannot have any 3's or 1's within the last 6 months. If you see anyone with 3's or 1's and they are still in the swap - I don't ban folks from the swap until I assign partners. The only time I ban a user before I assign partners is if they are known as a bad swapper, double profilers, etc.
  • I will look through your ratings and profile before assigning partners.
  • A filled out profile is a requirement.
  • You must have at least 10 completed Type 2 or Type 3 swaps within the last 3 months.
  • This is an international swap! You may get a partner in a different country, so make sure to ensure you have correct postage on your letter. If you need help with this please let me know & I will help you figure it out.

What Is A Spoonie?

A spoonie is a person who has a chronic condition. Spoonie is a term that came from the Spoon Theory. You can read more about it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon_theory

Just To Say

Yes you have a month to send this letter out. We are spoonies & it might just take that long to write a letter - which is perfectly fine & normal. There will be no gatekeeping! We all suffer and we all deserve to be treated with respect & dignity. Everyone is different and deals with their issues differently. Also, self diagnosis is legitimate and usually leads to an official diagnosis. That is not medical advice, just acknowledging an issue within the medical community.

With that being said, if someone starts to bully you, etc about your condition (or anything else, no matter what it is) please let me know so I can make sure that they will not be allowed in any of my future swaps, among other things.

A Bit Of Fine Print

This does not guarantee you a pen pal. Would that be awesome if it happened? Of course! Who wouldn't want a pen pal that understood? However, some folks just want to get it out about their condition and no more then a one time letter.
