Description:

I LOVE using wool felt and have found great results from using thrifted wool sweaters. The quality is similar (if not better) than store bought wool sheets and they cost an 1/8 of the price. I personally LOVE 100% lambswool sweaters as the felt the best. I also prefer a sweater with little to no texture (like cables, heavy ribs and bumps)

This swap will be US and Canada only :(

For this swap we will be swapping sleeves. You will have 2 partners and will send each partner 3 sleeves. Basically, you'll buy 3 sweaters, give each partner a sleeve from each sweater and keep the front and back for yourself.

Some basic Rules of Thumb to find the RIGHT sweater:

  • 100% wool always felts the best. It can be a wool blend (like angora, mohair and lambswool), but when mixed with other fibers like acrylic, polyester or cotton, you take a chance.
  • Cashmere will felt, but the end result is not as stiff as other types of wool

Washing Instructions:

  • Wash sweaters with detergent keeping like colors together on the hottest setting in your machine. Dry using the hottest setting as well.

*A label that says 100% lambswool or just 100% wool will felt the best after one washing.

  • A sweater that is a wool blend may need a second washing to get the result you're looking for.

  • Read the labels. There are alot of acrylic sweaters that look and feel just like wool, but won't felt.

SWAP RULES:

  • For this swap, we will be using only 100% wool sweaters. They can be a blend of wool, but look for 100% lambswool or just 100% wool on the label (as they give the best results).

  • You will wash the sweaters as per my directions above. You will then cut the sleeves off at the shoulder seem and then cut the sleeve open so it's flat. This will make it easier to mail. 3 sleeves can fit in a 9" x 12" envelope easily.

Things you can NOT send:

  • solid black and solid grey - they are too easy to find. Remember you are keeping the front and backs so look for unique colors, stripes and patterns. Avoid heavy textured sweaters, as they will stay that way after felted and might be less desireable to your partner.

  • 100% cashmere sweaters.

  • Please do not send the traditonal cream fishermen sweaters - it has too many cables in it. Also try to avoid heavy ribbed or bumpy textured sweaters.

  • Please do not send sweaters that are a blend of wool and other fibers. They Must be 100% wool.

You must have a rating of 4.75 or higher to participate. You can not have any ones within the last 2 months. Newbies can sign up but I will review your profile to approve you for the swap, so make sure it's pretty detailed.
