A zine is a small paper booklet like a mini magazine. There are some great explanatory pages online so I won't try to replicate them here. Have a little Google around and do feel free to ask me if you have any questions. There are various ways of making them. I copy mine on double-sided A4, cut it in quarters, fold and staple the spine, to give me a 16-page booklet. Another popular method lets you create an 8-page folded zine from a single page of A4. Both of these methods produce an A7-size booklet, but it can really be any size you want. Your zine can be on any topic you like. Here are some ideas:
You can make a single topic (let's call it Foo) into a full zine by including topics like an introduction, the history of Foo, different kinds of Foo or different ways to Foo, activities related to Foo, your personal experience with Foo, people who Foo, examples of Foo in the media, etc. Don't forget you can also use drawings, quotes, tutorials, lists and puzzles in your zine to add some variety! For this swap you will send one zine that you have made yourself to each of your 5 partners. I've put the swap partners as 5 because most of the work is in coming up with the content, not with making additional copies, and because zines don't tend to weigh very much to post. If people think this is too many do let me know though! Rating filter is on 4.95 but I will check for any recent/unexplained ones or threes and boot if I think appropriate. |
