Description:

Now that we have collected all these fun FQs let's show off what we do with them.

This swap is for all sewing Divas no matter how skilled you are. You will make something fun with 1-4 fat quarters for your partner. You can use zippers, buttons or anything fun to embellish but no more than 4 FQs. FQs must all be different. Try to push yourself on your skill level but if you are new to sewing don't be ashamed to work within your limits with a pillow cover or small doll quilt, etc. Please no dotees there are plenty of other swaps for them. There are lots of tutorials on the web so find something you enjoy making. This about enjoying your hobby so it's not important to fit your partners profile, but please be sure to give positve feedback to your partner when you rate, we were all newbies to sewing at one time. If you need help with anything you are making thats what our group is about so just ask, we all love to give advice.

Rules

Use 1-4 fat quarters to sew something for your partner.

Each fat quarter must be different.

Extra solid colored fabric can be used for lining.

Use as much embellishments as you like.

No Dotees.

Have Fun

Sounds like fun! I have this on my watchlist! Does anyone have any ideas/links on things to make? It would be fun to maybe start a thread on the group forum for everyone to choose from or at least get some ideas! :)

look on http://tipnut.com/scrap-happy-fabric-scrap-ideas-free-patterns/

there are tons of cool tutes on there!

Here's a free pattern for a tote bag. It calls for 1 yard of fabric, so you would have to use the fat quarters by sewing them into a larger piece, 35.5" x 43.5". This will be 1/2" smaller on the short side than the pattern calls for, but that will be OK.

Thanks for being on the ball you guys!! There are so many tuts out there you could spend days roaming through blogs and tuts.

Here's another free pattern, however it calls for 5 fat quarters. It's a little more complicated to get the pattern: go just below the picture of the bag and click on the colored "So Sew Easy Schlep Bag." This will download a PDF file.

It is easy to substitute 2 fat quarters for the 1/2 yard they call for.

I love that schlep bag! Some of the things I've thought of: a sewing machine cozy with a matching pincushion/thread catcher, a crochet hook roll (or knitting needle roll), placemats with matching/coordinated napkins. All things I could use! Or you could make the FQs into fabric yarn and crochet/knit something. Not sure if all of these fit into the requirements of 1-4 FQ though. oh, and it says "sew something" so I guess the fabric yarn doesn't quite fit. Or how about a yoga mat bag?

Will put on watchlist while I check these websites. This sounds intriguing:)

Bearynice 01/ 2/2009 #

Just clarifying, do we use 4 fat quarters or can it be 2 or 3 I have a lot of cute patterns that only require part of a fat quarter

SEMOkraftee 01/ 2/2009 #

I've not been in any of the Fat Quarter swaps, but I will put this on my Watchlist and give it some thought. The closest fabric store from me is an hour away. :( I have plenty of Fat Quarters and fabric in my stash, however. :) Gaye

This tutorial is great for one of those rice pillows you heat up for your neck....

Here's a tutorial for a notebook cover. You could easily cut up fat quarters instead of using the 5" charm squares.

Here's a fun one if you're just getting back into sewing like me - though the tutorial shows using 6 colors/patterns, I just made a set with just 3 colors/patterns by making the A square, the C square and two of the B squares the same. They turned out totally cool, check it it out. You'll see what I mean by A, B and C once you see the tutorial.

schlep bag = would work well with resizing to make it fat quarter friendly... 6" squares instead of 8" and you could get it out of 4 FQ.

I'm having fun just checking out blogs for ideas..Maybe if we all have fun we can do this again in the Spring?

Cakers 01/15/2009 #

hi @rainylady - I'd be game to do this again. I'll need a break from homework by then. Wow. To say 'homework' at age 45 1/2. :-)

mlookyloo1 01/26/2009 #

I think I will try this one sound like it would be fun

rainylady 01/27/2009 #

Wow I started working on mine and I'm really getting into to it! Whoever my partner is I'm sure will be happy with my project. I can't wait until this swap is finished so we can do it again!

If I need some solid as a backing, is that okay?
