Description:

This will be a very time-intensive challenging swap so please be prepared for that. I will list requirements for our journals below. Each requirement MUST be fulfilled. I am giving a very long send by date because I am taking a 6 week vacation June-July. You don't have to wait for partners to be assigned to get started. You may start right away. US only due to shipping costs. You don't have to do the requirements in order, just make sure they are in the journal somewhere.

Requirements:

Use a standard size composition notebook. They are normally 80-100 pages so let's use at least an 80 page one, 100 is better. YOU MUST FILL EVERY PAGE. If you run out of all of the things below, fill the rest of the pages with whatever you want. Do not glue pages together. You don't have to use the backs of pages, just the fronts.

Your journal covers front and back must be decorated. Inside of covers is up to you.

Your journal must include 5 Top 10 Lists

Your journal must include the lyrics to 5 of your favorite songs.

Your journal must include one page of a sticker slapped collage. Try not to let any paper show through when you are done.

Your journal must include one page of a washi tape collage. Use your favorite tapes. Deco tapes are fine. Try not to let any paper show through when you are done.

Your journal must include 20 quotes. Use your favorites if you have any.

Your journal must include 5 written out or typed poems.

Your journal must include answers to the list of prompts below.

Your journal must include a letter to your partner.

Your journal must include a collage of whatever you want to use. Can be magazine clippings, die cuts, ephemera, have a theme or not, anything you want.

Your journal must include the first and last page written or typed out (and glue it in or attach it if you type it out) of a book.

Your journal must include an "About Me".

Your journal must include 10 diary entries.

Your journal must include a minimum of 3 goodies for your partner (flat things are good to use, the more the merrier).

Your journal must include your bucket list or something similar.

Your journal must include a minimum of 3 pictures that you took either of yourself, a pet, scenery, anything you want. Give a little explanation as to what we are looking at. Your photos can be developed or printed off of the computer.

Your journal must include a summery page. You may use art, die cuts, print outs, doodles, whatever you want to create a page with a summer feel.

And last but not least, your journal must include a page decorated with a kitchen sink whether you draw or paint it or use a picture from the internet. Decorate one page in a kitchen sink theme.

LIST OF PROMPTS:

The best story your parents or grandparents tell about the good ole days.

The best things in life are...

Things that drive me batty

A place I'd like to live and why

The best thing I've ever found

The best thing that happened recently is...

I admire people who...

What makes me special

I am looking forward to...

Things that scare me

Complaints I have

I could never live without...

Things that make me laugh

And there you have it. Are you up for the challenge? Let's get started!

So I’m watching the swap and if I can get at least 1/3 done by sign up date I will sign up. I have a notebook all ready, the composition kind. I LOVE the requirements you chose!!! I’ll definitely have to scan the whole thing so I have a copy. Also I’m going to include some pockets. That would be a cool addition!!

shinyserra 04/ 7/2019 #

Awesome! I do hope you'll join. I think this will be a super fun journal to create. I'm getting started now.

jenmcjen 04/ 8/2019 #

Any more suggestions that aren’t required? Or a link to a list?

jenmcjen 04/ 8/2019 #

Oh boy! Pinterest is all I needed!

So if anybody else is looking for additional ideas, here are a few I plan to do: - page of book reviews, maybe 2-3 pages (I have >100 pages) - a couple pages of doodles - one with borders, one with animals, one with funny faces - I'm going to use watercolor to paint abstract backgrounds for as many pages as I can and may do one page with a watercolor painting of a thing - might tape that in so it can be good, or might just do it on the page and you get what I can do! - An Un-Do list - things I want to stop doing - A "currently" page, possibly two next to each other - one from early on in the journal's creation, and one for a month later - listening, eating, drinking, wearing, feeling, weather, reading, watching, thinking, enjoying, seeing, wanting, needing, feeling... - Using word art to do a page like 100 things I love or words on some particular theme (I hope my partner likes Doctor Who!) - Adding a simple embroidered image to a page - might blue 2 pages together for this - One month of a mood tracker in a colorful fun way - In addition to the book reviews page(s), I may record all the books I read during the process of creating the journal - I'd have to do some guessing as to how many pages to set aside - I may write a short story or a flash fiction (I have a hard time with flash - mine tend to be at least 750 words, but for ME, that is flash!) - Zentangle a full page - color? maybe... - Write the same word using different lettering styles - Write a letter page(s) - to my barista, 4th grade teacher, someone who had an impact on me in the past, someone who doesn't like me, that nurse who f'd up so badly when I had my first baby, an author I love (obviously that's going to be Stephen King), a fictional character (Hermione? The Doctor? Rose?) - I took pix of all the ATCs I made, I could print them wee small, like 1" high, and put as many as will fit on a page, picking my favorites - Inside jokes - will I explain them or just let the recipient enjoy wondering? I think B. - random facts page - track a day in my life and write every little boring ass thing - A page of story prompts, either that I find or that I make up - A page of journaling prompts for my partner - A page with the icons of my fave apps, and maybe explain the apps and what I use them for

It's possible I'll need an even bigger journal!

jenmcjen 04/ 9/2019 #

OMG I'm so sorry I forgot how to make things on new lines and now I can't edit it! Can you tell I'm very excited about this journal idea?

shinyserra 04/ 9/2019 #

Ummm those ideas are fabulous! lol. I am definitely borrowing a few or more of them. Thanks so much for the ideas! Also you could do a doodle a day challenge in like 30 small boxes or something, glue in your kid's artwork, do a fake interview with a celebrity, can't think of more now but if I think of any I'll add it here.

jenmcjen 04/10/2019 #

A. doodle-a-day! yes!!! B. haha no kids they all growed up yay! But they do still art...and there's grandkids... C. Fake interview with celebrity - cool idea - of course it ends with David Tennant falling madly in love with me and us running away in the TARDIS to live happily ever after...

I really hope my partner likes Doctor Who.

missechan87 04/13/2019 #

I with this was international! Ah Well maybe some Day :) cause this swap Sounds Aweome!!

shinyserra 04/14/2019 #

I can't afford the postage right now but maybe in the future we could do a private swap! or I could just host an international version when I have some extra $$.

I love the idea of this swap! It’s just not going to work in the cards for me this time around. I’m thinking that this could also be a fun idea to do in a loose leaf type of binder so a collective type of journal can be made a fewer pages at a time. 😁

shinyserra 04/16/2019 #

That is a great idea. I may do that in the future. :)

shinyserra 04/17/2019 #

I was asked if you could use a similar sized book to a composition book. Around 8 x 11 or so and 80 to 100 pages. This is fine to use.

Apelser 04/17/2019 #

This is such a cute idea for a swap. Unfortunately I won't be able to join but I'm going to use this as a journal set up for myself....

KarenLaneWV 06/16/2019 #

Mine went off in USPS land yesterday, after a lot of work!! I don't think I want to do another one that intensive for a while...whew...but it was fun to do.

shinyserra 06/18/2019 #

So glad you had fun!!!
