There are 24 chapters of Luke. We will be studying six chapters per swap, so we will have a total of 4 swaps. This is part one, focusing on Luke, chapter 1 through 6.

For each chapter, several questions are provided below. You must answer three of the questions. You can choose to answer more, but to fulfill the requirements of this swap, you have to answer a minimum of three questions per chapter. Make sure you copy down the question as well, so your partner knows which questions you are answering.

Send the study to your partner by the deadline.

You may type the questions, but your answers must be handwritten.

Chapter 1

  1. What are the similarities between Mary and Elizabeth’s pregnancies, and what are some of the differences?

  2. Why were Zechariah and Elizabeth childless?

  3. What do you know about Zechariah’s lineage?

  4. Where else in the Bible do we find the angel Gabriel mentioned?

  5. How far along was Elizabeth’s pregnancy when the angel went to see Mary?

Chapter 2

  1. Also read Matthew 1:18-25. What does it tell us about Mary and Joseph’s marriage?

  2. What is the significance of Joseph being in the line of David?

  3. What was the shepherds’ initial reaction when they saw the angel?

  4. What did the shepherds do after the angels left them?

  5. When did Mary and Joseph officially name Jesus?

  6. Why is Exodus 13:2 &12 significant to this chapter?

  7. Why did they bring a pair of doves and a 2 pigeons to the ceremony? See Leviticus 12:6-8.

  8. What do we learn about Anna?

  9. What celebration caused the family to travel to Jerusalem year after year?

  10. What was Jesus doing in the temple at the young age of 12?

Chapter 3

  1. Who was the governor of Judea? And who was the tetrarch of Galilee?

  2. What does John mean when he says that God is able to raise Abraham’s children from the stones? What can we learn from that?

  3. What does verse nine mean?

  4. Why did Herod put John in prison?

  5. How old was Jesus when He was baptized?

  6. Why is Joseph’s lineage relevant to the life of Christ?

Chapter 4

  1. Why would the Spirit lead Jesus into the wilderness? And why was this time of testing important?

  2. Jesus was tempted in three ways, what were they?

  3. Jesus rebuked Satan three times. What was the common thread in each of the three rebuttals?

  4. Where was Jesus brought up?

  5. Why were the people in the synagogue angry with Jesus?

  6. What are some of the miracles that Jesus performed in this chapter?

  7. How did the people in Nazareth differ from those in Capernaum?

Chapter 5

  1. What was Simon Peter’s reaction to the miracle he witnessed at sea that day?

  2. How were James and John connected to Simon?

  3. In verse 14, Jesus told the man not to tell anyone other than the priest about this miracle. Why do you think that is?

  4. Why did Jesus withdraw from the crowds?

  5. What is a Pharisee?

  6. Why did Jesus eat with sinners and tax collectors?

  7. What does the parable of the wineskins mean at the end of this chapter?

Chapter 6

  1. Why were the Pharisees and the teachers of the law angry with Jesus?

  2. Can you find the story in the Old Testament that Jesus is referring to where David ate the consecrated bread?

  3. Verse 13 says that Jesus chose 12 disciples who he also designated as apostles. What is the difference between the two designations?

  4. How are we instructed to treat our enemies?

  5. What do we learn about the heart in this chapter?

  6. What does Jesus say about those who hear God’s word, but ignore it?
