Description:

If you really like this swap, you're invited to join the Altered Book Envelope Swap group.

This swap is for people who want to start or add to an altered book or journal. An altered book is a book, usually hardback with text only pages, that you paint, rip, glue, and alter. This swap is for people who don't want to risk losing their book while swapping. Whether it's lost in the post or your partner flakes. Instead in the swap you will have your own book that you are going to alter yourself that you never send to anyone. What we're going to do instead is send our partners a envelope filled with ephemera based on a theme, and you will have to altered one two-page spread of your book with whatever your partner sent you.

You can use your own supplies also, but a lot of the fun is to use most of the things your partner sent. Only send around 1 oz, US swappers should only need 1-2 stamps on these envelopes. But, please fill as close to the 1 oz as you can - envelopes should be pretty full - not just a couple things. Send things you'd be happy to receive. These swaps are generally international, so sticking near the 1 oz mark also means the most swap while keeping cost reasonable.

This public swap is sender's choice. Group swaps tend to be more theme focuesd.

The swap send out deadline is just for the envelope of stuff. You can create your journal in your own time. We just have a small community so we can all share supplies and work on our journals 'together'. We even share finished pages on Flickr.

Suggested items to send: Scrapbook paper, stickers, die cuts, book illustrations, bingo cards, ATCs, inchies, zentangles, doodles, cut out sentences or words, embellishments, old photographs, flash cards, stamped images, hand drawn things, etc. Anything that counts as ephemera or just really cool things that are mostly flat that can be used in an altered book.

For this swap, minimum rating of 4.95. Newbies welcome with at least 3 rated type 2 or 3 swaps. Reserve the right to ban for any reason.

Always wanted to do this, but never got around to it. Is there any links/websites you would recommend for Inspiration?

What do you do with this book after it is altered? is it like a journal or just something like a scrapbook?

smmarrty 03/23/2016 #

Yes, it is an alternative to buying a journal in a store - using what you have in a new way.

What size envelope would you recommend to send the 1oz items?

seekingjoytoday 04/ 1/2016 #

@amathyst7 - there is no minimum or maximum size. I like the 6x9 manila envelopes because I can get a little larger pieces in them but still at the letter rate. But I've received notecard size ones that had great stuff also. Basically, if it fits it ships. :)
