Description:

Welcome to round 2 of trying and learning a new technique for you mail art. For this round you'll be using watercolor pencils to create a background. I really like this technique and it's so simple.

You will need the following items:

  • Water color pencils. At least 2 colors. You may use more if you like.
  • White card stock paper. You can use watercolor paper if you have it, but it works fine on regular white cardstock.
  • Paintbrush
  • Water

I'm not going to do a lot of explaining the technique because the video does a great job of showing you how to do it, but here's a brief explanation.

1) Lightly dip your paint brush into the water.

2) Hold your watercolor pencil over the cardstock and start brushing it against the end of the watercolor pencil and spread the color around the paper.

3) Blend the colors as much as you like.

4) That's it! :) You can use your heating tool to dry it or allow it to dry on its own.

Now that you have your background you can decorate the rest of the postcard how you'd like. Use stamps, paint, glitter, watercolor pencils or markers, collage, gel pens, paint pens, etc. Put your best effort into it. Make something you'd be proud to send and receive.

You must have a 4.98, 15 type 3 swaps completed and rated and no 1's or 3's in the last six months. I reserve the right to ban anyone who doesn't meet the requirements and anyone I deem iffy or a potential problem swapper.

The video tutorial is SO INSPIRING! I have an inexpensive set of watercolor pencils--the ones that Michaels sells for a song. I think the brand name is Artist's Loft. I did a practice with them immediately after watching the tutorial and they worked fairly well. The color came off easily just like with the expensive pencils. So . . . if you hesitate to join because you don't have a $200 box of Derwent or Prismacolor . . . don't!

Preach @isabellasnow lol I have the Hobby Lobby brand watercolor pencils. At least I think it's Hobby Lobby brand. That's where I bought them and they weren't uber expensive. They work just fine. I've played around with this technique since finding the tutorial and I think it's fun. :)

So no expensive watercolor pencils needed. Having fun and wanting to try something new is! Come on peeps! :)
