Description:

There are a lot of ways to add texture to an ATC: fabric, sand, just loads of paint and my current obssession: modeling paste!

Just spread modeling paste over a stencil for a fantastic effect. You can layer paint or stain over it, the possibilities are endless. The ATC in the photo is one with modeling paste, it is hard to see the texture in a photo but you can feel and see it up close.

So create ATC's with texture in some way. I am going to make it three partners because I would love to see the techniques of three other people but if more people would prefer to just have one partner, speak up in the comments and we will "majority rules" vote two days before I assign partners.

Three different partners is fine by me. I, too, like to be inspired by lots of other examples of a theme.

Your example is fabulous! 3 partners is fine for me, too.

@Ky This looks like a really fun swap to try. Do you have any instructions or do you know where any good tutorials are on the web? LMK & thanks!!

Thanks for the reminder Janis, I did mean to include some links! I don't want to inhibit anyone's creativity and adding texture does not mean you have to use the modeling paste ands tencil technique in my example...but in case that is a new technique to you and you want to try it...here are a few videos that may be helpful!

Another tutorial

I hope those help!

What I did with the example above is I started with an ATC blank cut from water color paper, 140 lb, and painted it. Then I spread modeling paste (I bought Golden brand but I think there are cheaper brands that work just as well because it is pretty pricey!) Then lifted the stencil and let it dry. Then I put a gel medium over it to protect it and to be able to wipe paint off where I wanted it wiped off. When that dried I used some transparent acrylics over it...two colors I think and wiped some off each time. I love the look and feel of it and have experimented with others...having a great time with it! :-)

so would embossing be considered ok for this swap? thanks.

Ky 06/29/2014 #

Yes @tazangelbabydes Embossing adds great texture!

Ok, we are sticking with 3 partners each...so make 4 to keep one for yourself! :-)
