Description:

The ABCs of HM PC swap is one (1) handmade (HM) postcard (PC) to one (1) partner that features one (1) letter of the English alphabet (maybe someone will do this for Chinese, or Cyrillic, or Greek, or other alphabet?). The entire alphabet will take us about year to complete, but at the end participants should be able to bind their cards into a book. That means all the cards have to be the same size and orientation.

The size is 4 inches x 6 inches (10.2 cm x 15.2 cm) and the orientation is landscape. The swap's featured letter must be on the front of the card in a way that makes it obvious. This is also so the final book will have a consistent look.

The first swap is for the letter Z. Nothing says we can't start at the end and work our way forward, or even do things out of order. We are artists. We can be crazy.

This is an international swap. Please make sure your postcards are suitable for "naked" mailing (no envelope) anywhere in the world. Please make sure you do not use plant materials in your design since some countries will not permit such material through customs.

Swap is open to those with complete profiles, at least 3 completed snail mail swaps with corresponding ratings, and a desire to have fun playing with the alphabet.

If you miss a letter, no problem. The coordinator can help you find someone who would love to set up a private swap to help you with your collection. Or, perhaps you might consider joining the Handmade Postcard Club here on Swap-Bot and post a request in the forum.

Yay! I love lettering! This swap is going to be fun. I'm glad you've broken it down into one letter per swap, instead of all 26 at once. Can we do punctuation too once we've gone through the alphabet?

Punctuation? I think that is a fabulous idea. Commas, and periods and quotation marks, oh my!

OK, ok, ok, I've done 2 sets of ATCs with alphabet... I figure I could just (just hah!) increase the size to postcard size/shape ! This should be fun, thanks for hosting such a creative idea.!

woo hoo! thanks so much Postmuse!!

Hmmm quick question. Since we are making these to bind into a book... should the postcards be horizontal, or at least the "letter" be horizontal so when they go into the book, they will all be oriented to bind the left side together being the 4 inch side? Or vertical so when we bind them that they will get bound together on the left with a 6 inch side? Of course we could go either way, knowing that when you go to bind your "book" of postcards, you will have them going both ways. I'm asking because I've seen postcards with the front photo going horizontal or vertical. Sorry for being so "organized" but some of us are "that way". LOL

The swap description does indicate landscape orientation. Is that what you mean? I am not sure how to understand horizontal/vertical.

FingersInc 06/24/2008 #

Duh, landscape = horizontal. Thank you.

Because the gallery here is so wonky, I posted my Z in my Flickr account. Don't look @wygirl if you want to be surprised!
