Description:

Trendy and pretty tape (like washi) does not always have to be purchased, it can be made as well, Let's explore that!

In this swap we will exchange a total of 30" of tape that is at least 0.5" wide. That means it can be 3 pieces of 10"-long tape or 5 pieces of 6"-long tape. But no piece should be less than 5".

Please tape your tapes to parchment paper or freezer paper (plastic side, of course), so it is flat mail.

You can try and duplicate washi tape, tissue tape, fabric tape or lace tape. Feel free to add stamped pattern and some pretty markings. Please do not send commercially made tapes. YOU can use commercially made materials to make it, like tissue paper with some kind of print, or fabric, obviously, just not the ready made tape.

Pinterest is an awesome source of info and tutorials on how to make your own tape with tons of cool techniques.

Last time I did this my partner sent me paper on sticky tape (like a sticker) as her "washi." Is this acceptable? To me, it didn't seem washi-enough.

no, paper on sticky tape is not acceptable. Glad you asked that! I've read numerous good tutorials online, for example, using tissue with some kind of double sided tape or xyron, or printing patterns on Avery brand translucent address labels and other stickers, making sticky fabric tape, there are tons of ideas if you spend some time searching. The point of the swap is not only to swap, but also get creative.

wondering if the technique in that link is acceptable? Or is that what you guys were talking about "paper on sticky tape"?

I'd say that the one that uses tissue is good, the one that uses scrapbooking paper - not what I had in mind. When it's stuck to card in the picture that it looks nothing like a tape, just like a piece of scrapbooking paper. I would there to be something special about this handmade tape - slight translucency, or texture different from a regular piece of paper. Thanks

Thanks so much for the clarification!

The one thing you have to look out for when you do the "sticky tape" type with tissue or translucent address labels is that you can't roll it up because it will stick to itself. You have to be sure that it is removable sticky otherwise it's just a sticker...isnt' it?
