Description:

A Faux Postage Workbook

For this swap, I have created a mini-zine template with prompts for you to use as starting points to design your own faux postage/artistamps/postoids. I have made two template PDFs – please choose the paper-size appropriate to your country!

Faux Postage Workbook, A4 template

Faux Postage Workbook, letter-size template

Each PDF has 2 pages, which are 2 different versions of the template: one with a pre-designed cover, and one with a blank cover for you to add your own title page. Both versions have a blank back cover for you to add whatever additional content/text etc that you like.

You can choose to use either one of the templates, or you can create your own mini zine from scratch using the following prompts (adding front & back covers):

  • Design your own faux postage stamps in the spaces below, adding value/currency and country.
  • Add a finished artistamp to the page & tell something about it.
  • What would you name your own faux Post Office? What services does it provide?
  • Add your P.O.'s name and/or location to the postmark (or create your own cancellation mark).
  • Make a gallery of faux postage stamps you have received, for inspiration (or make an archive of your own artistamps).
  • Tiny Tutorial – share a creative project inspired by faux postage.

Mini zine info:

If you use a template feel free to print a copy of the template then add text/images by hand to use as a mastercopy to scan or photocopy. Alternatively, scan the template into your pc to edit directly. If you can think of another way to use the template for your zine, please do so!

If you create your own mini-zine rather than use a template, you are not limited to the standard 8-page format & may use additional/larger/smaller pages (so long as the equivalent of 1 full sheet of paper is used) & any binding method you like. You should include responses to all prompts above, but may give more/less space to each prompt and include additional content of your own choosing. Please make sure pages do not exceed A6/quarter-size (approx. 4” x 6”) as this is supposed to be a mini zine.

As always, zines may be handwritten/hand-drawn, typed, word processed, photoshopped, cut-and-pasted – whatever style suits you. For those new to zines, it is usual to create one master-copy then photocopy or print multiples of the original.

RE-CAP

  • 1 mini zine to each partner, using a template or the listed prompts as a starting point

As always:

Late swaps & low ratings will all be checked before assigning partners, so please contact me if you think there might be a problem.

I am really excited about this swap, but trying to figure out exactly what I am making. Did that even make any sense?!? :)

I think you just need to print out the template, fill it in, and make photocopies to send out! :) Is that what you meant?

On the template on one page you create faux postage then the page next to it it says create an artist stamp on the grid. So..... how are faux postage and artist stamps different?

TangleCrafts 09/24/2013 #

Faux postage and artistamps are exactly the same thing, just different names for it.

What I meant in the template is to fill in the large faux postage stamp border with a design on page 1, directly on the page.

Then on the next page the idea is to prepare an artistamp separately, then stick it onto the grid, like an album page.

Does that make sense? Apologies for the confusion!

I filled mine in tonight :)

I mailed my zines today. It is a holiday (Columbus Day) in the USA so it will not be post marked until tomorrow.
