Description:

Many different grocery stores now sell sturdy, reuseable grocery bags to cut down on the use of paper and plastic. I'm a firm believer that we should all do what we can to help the environment; all these little steps do add up to make a difference. Plus these bags are often very attractive, and make good totes for knitting, visiting, and all kinds of other uses. At my local markets, the bags cost on average 99 cents to $2.50 apiece. Please spend $5 for this swap, sending as many bags as you can get for that amount.

Please, no swappers with a rating of less than 4.5. I am not able to angel anyone, so please everyone do their part!

This is the first swap I've organized, so I am limiting it to USA only. If I hear from people outside the U.S. who are interested, I will host another one as International.

Please don't hesitate to write me with any questions.

Is this swap for purchased bags only? Or would handmade ones be appropriate as well?

Bonnie1952 03/ 4/2008 #

This swap is for purchased, store-brand bags.

PennyArcade 03/ 8/2008 #

can we embellish the bags with patches or embroidery etc??

Sunshine9905 03/ 9/2008 #

All packaged up and ready to go! Just need a partner to ship to!

Penny - I guess you could. The original idea was just to swap purchased bags from different stores.

What does everyone else think?

Sunshine - very cool, same here.

I am such a junkie when it comes to these bags....I must have 12 from my local grocery, not to mention the ones from other stores....the funny thing is I always manage to forget that i have them in the car....so I buy more!

We're finding them at all the stores. In all sorts of colors, even thermal ones. Mine is also ready to go in the mail!

Scout Diva - At least you have them in the car.... I seem to always leave them home! Good thing my daughter and I are now knitting tote bags out of the plastic ones we bring home!

Bonnie - How do you knit tote bags out of the plastic bags you bring home? Can you send a pattern? I have LOTS of plastic bags cuz i also forget the totes and leave them in the car.

My mom made rugs out of the bags. Only thing is that they slide all over the place. I just got a cool bag from Target that zips up into a little pouch. Sounds like a cool swap. I would have loved to join but I have to complete too many right now.

Bonnie1952 03/15/2008 #

Thanks, Di. I'm gonna do an international version of this one; maybe you can join that one.

Bonnie, I have seen patterns for those on the internet in crochet....are they easy to work with? I have tons of the bags, so I think Im going to try one, I have a pattern here that is for a beach bag made out of the plastic bags...when it gets too nasty from the beach you can throw it away, or maybe even wash it?!?!?!?
