Description:

This is the first in a 12-month series of quilt blocks that represent the birthstone for each month. At the end of the series, you should have a nice collection of assorted color blocks for a quilt or other project!

We will make our two partners one 12 x 12 inch quilt block with the pattern for the month. Make sure you leave a quarter inch seam all the way around, so the square you send measures 12.5 x 12.5 inches.

July's pattern is the Antique Tile block.

Here is the link.

This pattern is exact for the size and dimensions, so no changing is necessary.

July's color is red ( ruby ). You may use a combination of dark/light red fabrics (no solids, please), or red in combination with white or light cream.

Birthstone BOM Guidelines

If you join the BOM, you don't have to stay in it for each round. It's not a requirement that you join each month.

Make sure the fabrics are all 100% cotton fabrics and blocks are 12.5 by 12.5 inches when finished.

This swap is not profile specific, so you can start working on it as soon as you sign up.

If you flake on any of these swaps you will be banned from future Birthstone BOM swaps.

Any questions, be sure to pm me and I'll be happy to answer them.

Giving the pattern, with directions, is a very nice addition. This should be an interesting series. If I make a third one to keep for myself I'll 36 at the end of a year, a good size for a bed quilt and, of course, no two will be alike in fabric.

This series of swaps ran in 2009 and was very popular. I got a nice selection of a few months' blocks but wanted to finish all 12 months, so I'm running it again.

I made up my blocks for this swap today. Three fat quarters are all that's needed to make both blocks. They go together pretty quickly.
