Description:

Several years ago our knitting group CRKnits made an afghan in this manner and it was so cool!! I don't know if I have a photo, but will try to find one. This is a long term project and every one will have a completely different finished project.

I would like to have one for myself from squares made by people all over the world. This is a monthly swap that will be started on the first and due no later than the last day of each month. I plan to have between 24 and 32 shapes exchanged to complete the project.

Each month you will knit, crochet or weave one sampler for one partner. Can be any shape (for example square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, octagon or circle) between 4" and 12" in any color, pattern \using good quality, worsted weight, machine washable fiber(s). Natural fibers preferred, but nice acrylic/nylon and blended fibers are acceptable.

Fibers and the finished product must be soft/silky texture, clean and have a nice drape. They must be a pleasure to hold and be a lovely complement to any project.

Unacceptable Brands/types from craft store: The old, scratchy, nasty acrylic versions from Lion and Red Heart or comparable brand. Many of the new fibers offered by these two companies are acceptable.

RATED SWAPPERS ONLY - INTERNATIONAL

Sending group swaps no later than the send-by date is considered a swap requirement. In the rare circumstance that you must send late, please contact your partner AND the swap host no later than the send date.

Thank you for your consideration and happy swapping!

This is such a perfect swap! (Especially so because it omits the nasty acrylic yarns...) I'm only thinking of the great size scale allowed - I wouldn't be that happy if I, for example, crocheted a 12" piece and got a 4" in return... Should it be narrowed a bit or made a note that those wishing to do small pieces could send two or three? Of course if you do very intricate pattern the size is not so relevant.

I plan on using natural fibers and making the pieces rather large, so you can expect a 12x12 or thereabouts from me, Ana.

@Anaryawe

Part of the charm of this blanket is the variety of shapes and sizes - finish it and you'll see. You can always send two or three small pieces - or two or three big pieces for that matter. We have a full month to complete the work and I expect everyone will provide lovely work regardless of size.

Personally, I'm actually excited about the variety of sizes and would value one as much as the other because each will be something I didn't create. Hope you all do to!

I've posted a Random Sampler Afghan discussion topic. Please put any comments there as each month will carry over - that way we can see all of the discussion for this project.
