Description:

For this swap, YOU CHOOSE which type of craft to send! Choose a craft you are really good at to impress your swap partners. You will send an envelope, box, or whatever of your craft to each of two partners. Because craft/art sizes, values, and time investment vary, please try to send something that would cost about $15-$20 at a country craft fair (i.e., not a gallery in NYC). So this would probably be about:

  • 6+ ATCs (obviously depends on how much time you put into them, since many of these are very simple, you'd probably have to do a lot) ***the above was adjusted based on feedback from the posts below****
  • 2 Dotee Dolls
  • 1 small painting or drawing if matted nice (or maybe 2 unmatted)
  • 2 pairs of knitted socks
  • 1 large stuffie (or 2 smaller stuffies)
  • 1 knitted scarf ....you get the idea

Added based on feedback in the posts below The above are just general guides, though. DO NOT send 2 simple sketches and expect that to count if they are not done really well!!! You should use your own judgement, and not just try to meet the quantities above. These are only rough estimates. Your partner should be able to answer yes to "Would I or someone else buy this for $15-$20 at a local craft fair". If the answer is obviously no, then don't expect to get a rating of 5. Remember, they don't have to LIKE it, but they should be able to easily agree that it could plausibly sell for $15-20.

Try to look at your partner's profile for colors, themes, etc. But, since this is to exhibit the best of your craft, deviating from this should be expected. If you do crocheting and knitting, and someone's profile says they dislike crocheting and knitting, then so be it - send the crocheted or knitted item.

Since there is a lot of time and effort in this swap, please only sign up if you have a 4.7 or higher, and no 1's within the past 3 months, and have been rated at least 3 times in real (not electronic) swaps.

This is the first swap I am trying to host, so please be patient. This is US only, but if there is interest, I will start an international one.

I may not be able to angel this if we have a lot of problems (I certainly hope not), but I will actively post in the forums and try to get an angel for anyone who needs one.

I'm excited for this swap! Thanks for posting it Fivecats:)

I'm just starting and don't know if I'll have enough ratings on any real swaps in time for this. If I don't, just delete me, I'm ok with that. I love this idea though, and would definitely send something REALLY NICE to my partner!

Do you really think that 2 pr. knitted socks is equal to 4 ATC's? I've gotten some ATC's that took all of 3 minutes to make, and I've knit plenty of socks, and not one pair took less than 40 hours and $20 worth of yarn. You might want to rethink that!

kgeslab 01/13/2008 #

Sorry, that came off a bit rude, and that was not the intention. I just know that if someone knit 2 pr. socks and got 4 ATC's in return they'd be pretty disappointed!

YooperHill 01/13/2008 #

I feel the same about the ATC.

fivecats1 01/14/2008 #

OK, good point. Actually I had re-thought the 4 ATC thing last night, but not re-posted. I will edit the post. I guess I was thinking of hand-painted ATCs with a lot of detail when I made that up. You are right, it would be more like 6-8 ATCs depending on the detail. I'll try to make the edited version more general, too.

Unfortunately, I am in the same situation as carladallas. I would love to be apart of this swap but I'm not sure I will have enough credits in time. I hope that if I can't make this one, you'll think about coordinating it again. Thanks, Lauren.

Yes, I'm thinking about doing this swap periodically, so you can definitely look for it in the future. Also, I'd be happy to do a private swap with you as long as you send to me first (that goes for any of you who don't have quite enough ratings yet). Or, there is a forum page that lists the names of swappers who are willing to swap with newbies so they can get rated. I am also very new, and really you just have to look around for the lower-value swaps that will allow in newbies, and you can get rated pretty quickly as long as you send out your swap very early (if you wait until the last day, obviously you won't get a rating as quickly).

Sounds like fun, Im always looking for a swap that I can make one of my dolls for but they arent dottie dolls or goddess dolls, I hope who I get would like one!! If not I do have a few more things up my sleeve.

I agree with the comments about the socks -- 2 pairs of socks are not equivalent with one scarf or the other listed items. Socks are extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive to knit, you really may want to reconsider and switch it to one pair. I'm looking forward to this swap!

fivecats1 01/24/2008 #

In response to the comments on the equivalency of the items, the above are only general guidelines, and obviously will be much different depending on the difficulty, materials used, etc, for each of the items. If unsure, err on the side of sending MORE rather than less. Remember, the purpose of this swap is to IMPRESS your swap partners....

fivecats1 01/26/2008 #

Partners have been assigned!!! I hope everyone has a great time making their swap items!!

Becky, You did a great job with this swap. I'm in favor of an international one, if you get a chance... :-)
