Description:

Note: I'm posting this in January because I just thought of what I think will be a cool idea-but it's not coming due until June!

Well, the name about says it. Two bookmarks, to each of two partners (4 total), and whatever you send has to be book-usable. So remember, it can't be thick enough to bend a binding or sharp enought to rip a page. The libraries frown on that. So do book-owners, right? Welcome to international participants and to newbies. No skunks, please! A special gift to the first three to sign up! Get your imaginations ready.

I love books and have some cool bookmarks I want to make, I'm in!

Hooray! Numbers one and two have signed up! Keep your eyes peeled, I will be hosting a swap each month until I run out of ideas or no one signs up (how sad.) Thank you both. Karen

Do the bookmarks have to be handmade or can they be store-bought? If store-bought, are there any other restrictions?

karenvan2 01/ 5/2008 #

Hi, Swan-seems we have the same taste in swaps, don't we-bookmarks and postcards! Literally, anything goes, as long as they are book-safe. Would you put it in your favorite book? Then it should work.

I hope no one feels inspired to send a piece of string or an old envelope-that's what I used to do before I jumped into my first bookmark swap... Karen

HOORAY!!!

I believe I have managed to set up a flickr.com group for this and other swaps I am hosting. My screen name is karenvan252541 (tedious explanation) and the group is called Swap-bot bookmarks. The forums are set up by the name of the swap, and there are just a few rules. Only first names or swap-bot ids are acceptable. You may post bookmarks you have received at any time. You may not post bookmarks you are sending until one week after you sent them. There are also forums for ideas, for sources, for books you arer reading and recommend, or don't, and for bookmarks you may have made or received that are not related to these swaps. I truly hope you will take advantage of this flickr group. Thank you!! Karen

Can the bookmarks be crocheted? I will wait for a response before I sign up. Thanks!

Karen, I see you really do love bookmarks. I have been making bookmarks for friends and family. I can't wait to send some new ones. I love the bookmark and atc swaps because they do not cost much postage, and they do not take up much space in my home. Here's to swapping together again and again!

PJ-I'm sorry I'm didn't catch yur question earlier. Yes, the bookmarks can be crocheted. I crochet, but usually with worsted weight yarn, which I think might be a littl ebulky-but maybe not. I hope you'll post your bookmarks on the flickr site after you mail them, I'd like to see them. Yes, Angie, I am a bookmarks fan-because I'm such a book fan. I put all my bookmarks in a small basket next to the large basket I put my books in when I come back from the library. I usually have quite a few, because I read very quickly, and since I'm disabled, I often read all day. I have finally trained myself to put a bookmark in each book right away-otherwise I fiorget the bookmarks and still resort to a scrap of paper! Karen

i am new to this site and dont know how it really works can someone help me?

I have recently made a couple "book thongs" which are thin cording with beads on each end. They are fun, and something different, would these count? Or would the participants prefer "regular" flat type bookmarks? I guess I could email my partners before I mail out, and check on their preferences. Thanks.

I think this will be fun and I'm happy to join in time.
